It is way too easy these days to get caught up in “news” events and phony, media-created (or stupidity-created) controversies, at the expense of the important stuff. Who has time to look at the details of the bank bailouts, or new strategies in Afghanistan when you’re yakking about Miss California’s opinions and risqué photos? Or the new White House dog. Or Wanda Sykes. Or Sarah Palin’s book deal. See what I mean? Here is some blessed relief from triviality: There has been a major breakthrough in D.C. on the climate change bill.

Some critical details of the cap-and-trade legislation, which had threatened to derail action on climate change, have been hammered out, and the bill should pass the House Energy and Commerce Committee next week, according to Chairman Henry Waxman. One interesting aspect of the compromises reached is that the deals are between Waxman and other Democrats who are a bit to his right on the political spectrum. In other words, the GOP isn’t even in the game on this issue, which, in this writer’s opinion, is pretty much where they should be kept during consideration of any climate change-related legislation. 1. Yep, Frank, it will happen as soon as 2010. Most Americans already don’t believe, and one more cold winter will pretty much hang the warmers out to dry. The backlash coming over GW is going to be swift and it will be severe, and Obama’s presidency will be severely damaged by it.
