Conservatives can breathe a sigh of relief now: their rooting against America has paid off. Yep, Chicago, as well as Tokyo, have been eliminated as host cities for the 2016 Olympics. As was just announced, the race to host the sporting extravaganza is now over, and Rio won. I hope the right wing is happy.
Not that their endless bitching had anything to do with the International Olympics Committee’s (IOC) decision, but it’s been interesting to see just how far today’s conservatives will push their priorities i.e., running down Pres. Obama, as opposed to rooting for their own country on the international stage. Conservatives have spent the past few days whining that Obamas 15-hour trip to Copenhagen was diverting him from more important issues; insulting one of Americas great cities, Chicago; and belittling the Olympics. GOP morals czar Gamblin Bill Bennett even said he was rooting for Rio rather than Chicago. And these are the guys, remember, who play up the issue of patriotism 24/7, ad nauseam. Apparently, its patriotic now to root against your own country.
Conservative bloggers and pundits have already started gloating — gloating that Obama couldnt convince the IOC, and that hes a poopy-head from a doo-doo city that real Americans dont like, nyah nyah nyah. What a bunch of whiny-ass losers that whole movement has turned into. Here’s some of their fine, journalistic work.

Liberals never cease to amaze me!
How does thinking Obama does not have his priorities straight translate to being against the United States of America? For that matter, how does not caring about the Olympics nearly as much as caring about our troops in Afghanistan translate into being against America?
The sad fact is that liberals are trying to turn the truth inside out and make facts appear as fiction and fiction as facts.
Most Americans know the difference between a patriot and a politician who seeks personal gain.
The IOC probably figured the US might not exist as it is today by the time 2016 rolls around. A dollar collapse is right around the corner and the US as we know it today will no longer exist.
Good for the IOC.
Get a grip, Mr. Grooms. Few people give a rat’s ass about the Olympics these days. We have 24/7 sports coverage via broadcast, print, and Internet. There’s even a channel devoted entirely to freaking golf. With people able to get their sports fix on a daily/hourly/minute basis, who the hell cares about the US beating Latvia every four years in a sporting event long past its sell-by date?
Like sports stadiums, the Olympics are not the economic boon they are purported to be. Many cities remain in debt years after hosting the Olympics. As for bringing cache or recognition to a city, this would apply to small/medium cities that are trying to be players. Chicago is already a big-time city known worldwide.
Given the broke-ass condition of cities and states in the US (including the broke-ass but in denial federal govt), Chicago has more dire needs for its funds than chasing the Olympics.
As for Obama making a pitch for Chicago, he has more pressing matters, don’t ya think? You and other Obamabots are so caught up defending your man against the racists and Fox News that you can’t see the forest for the trees. Look in the forest and you’ll find MUCH you should be calling out Obama on (see: continuing war, health plan written to please drug and insurance companies, no job creation programs worth a shit, emptying Treasury into banksters’ pockets).
As long as cities and states are bleeding red ink, lacking funds to pay their workers decent wages, and cutting needed services, any bid for the Olympics should be 100% financed by private industry.
“This event is small potatoes compared to the Democrats saying the War is lost or American soldiers are killing innocent civilians in the dead of night. Things like this are just fine and dandy for the Democrats but GOD forbid a republican state the obvious and they are now unpatriotic.” —
What about when folks say the war can be won, but we refuse to win it? I think we can beat any middle eastern country if we wanted to, but we wont do it. Perpetual war always makes more money for certain folks.
Dang…truth hurts….
This shouldn’t be any surprise. The neocons have shown time and time again that they will put politics over what’s truly better for America. They continue to look like babbling fools.
Last week, lose the Olympics. The following week, our president receives the Nobel Peace Prize. The radcons can’t win.
