The fourth annual Carolina Folk Art Festival, presented by Maddi’s Gallery is attracting artists from across the south for this year’s two-day event.  It will be held May 16 and 17 on The Green in Birkdale Village in Huntersville, N.C. Many well-known folk artists across the South will participate in the event which will run from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 and from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 18. More than thirty-five folk artists will display and offer works for sale in a wide variety of media, including: fiber, painting, wood carving and wood sculpture, jewelry, pottery, metal work, basketry and gourd art.  Some of the participating artists’ work can be viewed at the following Web sites: www.monihill.com (Moni Hill, painting), www.walkinwright.com (Sandy Erickson Wright, painting) www.karenfincannon.com (Karen Fincannon, ceramic). The 2009 Festival Design Contest was won by Salisbury, NC artists, Tim and Lisa Kluttz.  Their painting, “Lady Liberty” is a bright and colorful rendition, typical of their spirited work.  Tim and Lisa have exhibited at the Festival since its inception. Children are invited to join a free painting activity sponsored by Amazing Pottery of Birkdale Village.  Kids can decorate a pottery ornament and take it home as a souvenir of the Festival. Birkdale Village is located off of Exit 25 from I-77.
