It looks as if there may be some relief for fans of the Novello Festival after all. Details have not been worked out, but we have learned that a substitute for Novello – NeoNovello? – will probably happen in the fall, around the time of the now-canceled annual library-sponsored festival. The new festival is said to be a series of free readings by local and regional writers at various places around the city and county, and will probably include a component for kids. Donations gathered at these events would be donated to the library. OK, it’s not Toni Morrison or Pat Conroy, but considering the draconian cuts made by the county to the library’s funds, it sounds very promising. Stay tuned for more.
