Former Charlotte Mayor and current U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx will be in Charlotte today to make a “major transportation funding announcement” at the Amtrak station on North Tryon Street. He’s expected to announce a $25 million TIGER grant to go toward a new Gateway station that would act as a hub for Amtrak, commuter trains, buses and a streetcar. The project isn’t locked in, however, as it is still unclear where the remaining $125-175 million would come from.
