At last night’s city council meeting, city manager Ron Carlee announced that he will be moving a Confederate monument that once sat on the lawn of the old city hall to Elmwood Cemetery. The monument has been sitting in storage since this summer, when it had to be removed for cleaning after someone spray painted the word “racist” across it. The idea to move it to Elmwood Cemetery, which sits across from the North Carolina Music Factory in Uptown, reportedly came from members of The Confederate Memorial Association of Charlotte, which paid for the monument.
