Governor Pat McCrory met yesterday with Human Rights Campaign and Equality North Carolina representatives visiting the state capitol to deliver a letter petitioning HB2, signed by over 100 businesses. Press was barred from attending the letter handoff, and the three LGBT advocates that met with McCrory have declined to comment on what was said. Speaking on the governor’s behalf in a statement, spokesperson Josh Ellis said, “Gov. McCrory appreciated the opportunity to sit down and deal with these complex issues through conversation and dialogue as opposed to political threats and economic retaliation.” (Colin Campbell, The News & Observer)

Three people are in the hospital and Wilkesboro Highway remains closed following a serious two-car accident in Iredell County this morning. Officers on the scene explain that the crash occurred when a red van traveling down the two-lane road veered over the yellow line and into oncoming traffic, striking a Ford Fusion. Both drivers were seriously injured and were transported to the hospital along with a passenger from the Fusion, who suffered less severe injuries. The section of road, between Bruce Farm Road and Friendship Road, remained closed as officials investigated the scene of the accident. (WSOC Staff)
Police have identified a man killed in northeast Charlotte last night as 21-year-old Lanaris Isabell. A CMPD release states that police found Isabell suffering from gunshot wounds after responding to a call for service on Atmore Street between Sugar Creek Road and The Plaza at around 11:30 p.m. last night. No word on any arrests in this case. (Ryan Pitkin)
On Thursday, Charlotte firefighters escorted home a toddler who spent six months recovering from severe burns in a Winston-Salem hospital. Emily Hinton, now 20 months old, was burned last year when a gas can exploded in her backyard. Hinton endured seven surgical procedures during her hospitalization and her story gained widespread support on social media. (Fox46 Staff)
