CMPD is investigating an early morning shooting near the troubled Sugar Creek Road/I-85 interchange. Officers responded to a call at the Economy Inn on Tom Hunter Road at around 2:30 a.m. and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was transported to CMC and is reportedly in stable condition. (Fox46 Staff)
Students at Duke University continue to occupy the college president’s office today, in a protest that began Friday and calls for the dismissal of three administrators, including one that protesters say used a racial slur against a parking attendant during an incident two years ago. Police and fans are gearing up for the UNC Chapel Hill Tar Heels’ championship appearance tonight. The Heels will play against Villanova in Houston, but fans are camping out in Chapel Hill to get a chance to watch the game at The Top of the Hill, and they’ll also be watching from the Smith Center. CMPD said speed was a factor in a wreck that killed a 14-year-old boy in south Charlotte on Saturday morning, but haven’t said yet whether criminal charges will be filed against the driver. Police said 17-year-old Seok Won Andrew Sung was driving well above the speed limit when he lost control of his car at around 4 a.m. on Saturday and hit a tree, killing his front-seat passenger, 14-year-old Joshua Pang.
