From Brave New Films:

5 million members.

Scores of progressive legislative victories.

$88 million raised and 934,000 volunteers mobilized to put Barack Obama in the White House in 2008.

And it all started with one 15-word sentence in an online petition created by a young married couple in Berkeley, California.

Presented by Brave New Films, for the first time ever, the story of MoveOn.org is being told in a feature-length documentary film – MoveOn: The Movie.

Because of MoveOn.org, millions of progressive-minded Americans, isolated from each other in red and blue communities all over the country, have been able to find each other online, organize themselves in the real world and build a movement that has changed the country forever.

This feature-length documentary tells the story of a movement that became the voice of opposition to an out-of-control Bush Administration and the inception of a new form of democratic participation.

  1. Just WTF is so magnificent about MoveOn? I guess the only thing is they were able to bamboozle a shitload of the desperate, the gullible, and the limousine liberals and poser progressives to drink the kool aid – again – and vote for the Democratic party corporatist puppet.

For a group that was supposedly anti-war, pro-civil liberties, pro-single payer, and pro-labor it sure is silent as fucking hell as their electee Obama thumbs his nose at everything MoveOn purportedly advocated. End war? Iraq will be occupied by US forces for the foreseeable future and Afghanistan is heating up nicely. Civil liberties? Obama White House drafted legalese to keep indefinite detention going strong. Gitmo may be closing but Bagram has space waiting for Gitmo refugees. Secret prisons and renditioning ain’t going away either. Wiretapping and surveillance of US citizens – including those peacefully excercising their rights to protest and dissent are moving right along. Insurance and Big Pharma have a stranglehold on healthcare reform debate. Single payer supporters are being silenced not just by Insurance and Republicans but by the Big O and his cabinet henchfolk.

Maybe MoveOn’s goal was simply to remove Bush from office but not his wretched agenda. If this is the case, MoveOn has achieved its nirvana.

  2. Word from the commenter who used the “kool-aid” reference. I ain’t no damn conservative. My politics are independent with a left leaning bent. And for your info, I’m also black. As for parroting the same lines over again, the Left does the same thing. How many Obamabots have gotten hooked on hope, change, post-racial America sloganeering, etc. I’m proud to not be one of the – yes, I’ll say it a-fucking-gain, kool-aid drinkers who bought into the Obama hype and still now after he has proven to be another DLC shill dutifully carrying out the Bush and corporatist agendas remain silent.
