For many folks a “best date ever” is usually preceded by more than a few bad ones. The old saying that there are “plenty of fish in the sea” really ought to be revised to plenty of “scum.” At least then, folks wouldn’t get their hopes up about someone only to find they’re just the opposite of what they’re looking for in a partner. That’s particularly what playwright Theresa Rebeck had in mind when penning the joys (or not) of dating in her funny one-woman comedy, Bad Dates.

First staged with positive reception by Collaborative Arts in 2006, the theater production company revived the drama. The show — directed by Elise Wilkinson — stars local actress Kim Watson Brooks (pictured above) as Haley Walker, a single mom who is returning to the dating world after 12 years of stagnation. Luckily, she finds humor in even her worst suitors and for an extra boost, she’s apparently got a designer shoe collection to die for. Ooh lala.
