The well-organized, pseudo-grassroots protesters who have been disrupting health care town hall meetings and the right-wing media that are riling them up are becoming nastier and more virulent by the day. Now, Rep. Brad Miller of North Carolina has received a death threat from an opponent of health care reform.
Millers communications director LuAnn Canipe said a slew of very angry calls were received in the Congressmans Raleigh office. A caller to the Washington, DC office then told a staffer there that Miller could lose his life over this, referring to health care reform. The staffer gave Capitol Police the callers phone number, but hasnt heard back from the law enforcement agency yet. Miller wont be hosting any town hall events anytime soon, partly due to the death threat, but he will meet with constituents who request a meeting, on a one-on-one basis. The death threat, and the yelling protesters, are examples of pure political thuggery. That’s to be expected when you have right-wing radio blowhards scaring hell out of people with blatant deceptions, plus an entire news network seemingly devoted to bringing down the current U.S. government, spreading misinformation like so much manure on a garden of lies.
Gee, I hope theyre proud.
This article appears in Best of Charlotte 2009.

I heard someone on Bill Lemay say that he didn’t believe there was a death threat. Even Lemay couldn’t go along with that.
Nice blog, I just sent this page to StumbeUpon. I was the first, hopefully you will get a lot of hits from it.
If you return the favor, please finish or mine goes to the grave yard.
In the 1930s those folks were called brownshirts.
Once they’d intimidated enough local citizens and the government they were called masters.
American equivalent to brownshirt- ATF agent.
Gestapo ~ Dept. Homeland Security
Hitler Youth ~ Obama Youth
Republican vs. Democrat = false dichotomy. One’s fascist; One’s Commie- both are socialist.
Hitler was an environmentalist vegetarian. Stalin LOVED gun-control. Mao is history’s most prolific mass-murderer. All of them crushed dissent and protest with brutal efficiency.
The Great Community Organizer is not allowed to get upset when communities organize.
And for you libtards that think this is sponsored astro-turfing, could you please let me know who’s doing the sponsoring and where do I apply. I’d love to get paid to protest like acorn(spits).
P.S. Right-Wing = conservative liberty-lover. Most often advocating limited government, States’ Rights, constitutional originalism, and common sense.
NOT anarchy; we are not naive utopians like liberals. We like rule of law; not rule of men. i.e. blind justice; not wise (hah) racists who legislate from the bench.
P.P.S. Thanks Margo- I did stumble this page.
USUL — no such thing as “rule of law”. Men’s laws are written by me open to much interpretation and loopholes.
Rule of NATURAL law — there ya go.
I’m extremely far right and anarchy IS the ideal (no State), you have probably have it confused with chaos — big no no.
Luke, Unfortunately one of the laws of nature is the nature of human nature. There is ALWAYS going to be some bastard who wants to sanctimoniously rule others. Which is precisely why anarchy and its big brother communism have always and will always fail; gruesomely- might I add. Like the Founders of this greatest of Republics in history, I recognize that government is a “necessary evil”. It is a “dangerous servant and a terrible master”, but it is necessary.
Jews had no govt for over 400 years and got along just fine. so govt isnt a necessary evil.
Native americans also had no formal govt.
Just to name a few examples.
Anarchy is ideal.
Luke, The Jews, as a national people, i.e. post Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and excluding the diaspora, have never been without a government. From the judges, to kings, to pharoahs, to Moses, to prime ministers.
The Native Americans were also rife with government. With exceedingly few exceptions, the tribes had chiefs, elders, and councils. Even to the point, as with the Algonquins, of having an entire confederation of tribes. The tribes that did have true anarchy were only a few dozen people in population, at most.
Anarchy, I dare say, is impossible on a scale of hundreds of millions of people. Even democracy is impotent on that great a scale. The only governmental systems that man has yet devised that can handle that kind of population are totalitarian despotisms and constitutional republics.
I’m sorry Luke, but history has almost never allowed ‘the ideal’ to prevail. Anarchy may very well be the ‘ideal’ but like the song refrains: “peace sells, but who’s buying?” You find a way to account for human nature better than the American Constitution and I’ll be right there with you.
Peace, bro
It is time for the GOP to take a stand and denounce these threats. There is a related post at http://iamsoannoyed.com/?page_id=588
The Republan party just can’t accept that they lost (and by a landslide) and that a black man is in the White House. They are going for broke with their bullying, lies, fearmongering and death threats in the hopes of seizing power by violence. They are no longer a political party, they are a terrorist group.
It is a shame that people can no longer voice their opinions without being labelled a racist.
The town hall mtg in the video from Fla showed people losing it over the possibility of health care changing.
Many likely unemployed and dealing with their own health problems.
All of us need to stick together and remember we are Americans.
President Obama is correct that the health reform should NOT include illegal immigrants.
It is time for insurance companies to come down off their ivory tower and stop committing fraud.
The death threats are probably going to get worse(unfortunately). This concerns all of us in the most personal way.
