Fight over coal plant focused on Mercury: Environmentalists are feuding with Duke Energy Corp. over the construction of a $2.4 billion coal-fired generator that would emit upwards of 290 pounds of mercury each year. Opponents argue to increase measures that will ensure emissions are limited to the greatest extent, where Duke claims they already have sufficient controls in place.

CIAA OKs stay until 2011:CIAA board of director’s approves the request to hold the week-long festivities in Charlotte for at least three more years. In previous years, the state has covered the $200,000 plus expenses related to hosting the event; beginning next year, the CIAA will cover foot the bill.

Man arrested after vehicle search reveals radar and siren: 32-year-old Milan Krivsky was charged with operating a vehicle resembling a police vehicle. After the trooper pulled him over for speeding, he found a blue light, radar, siren and other curious additions to Krivsky’s Jeep Cherokee.
