I generally regard math as a silly hobby bordering on witchcraft. But the number dudes at Elon University say these are to be taken seriously, so let’s go with them.

About 51 percent of responders in a recent poll opposed legalizing marijuana in North Carolina, while 39 percent supported it. Unsurprisingly, 43 percent of Democrats and 47 percent of independents support it, compared to 23 percent of Republicans.

More men than women support legalization, and about an equal number of blacks and whites – 39 percent and 36 percent, respectively – support it. As the Elon pollsters put it, “finally, an issue not divided by race!” Support declines as the age of responders increases.
