It’s been nearly a month since Paul Newman passed away, yet he continues to weigh heavily on my mind. He was a great actor, a great humanitarian, and a great liberal (he once described his placement on Richard Nixon’s notorious “enemies list” as his “greatest achievement”).

The media did its part in recent weeks by covering his career extensively; now do your part by checking out several of his movies. Out of the 58 motion pictures in which he appeared, these 10 feature my favorite Paul Newman performances (listed chronologically):

1. The Hustler (1961)

2. Hud (1963)

3. What a Way to Go! (1964)

4. Cool Hand Luke (1967)

5. Slap Shot (1977)

6. Absence of Malice (1981)

7. The Verdict (1982)

8. The Color of Money (1986)

9. Mr. & Mrs. Bridge (1990)

10. Nobody’s Fool (1994)
