N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue is proposing a series of initiatives to spur economic development in the state, including a plan to reduce small companies’ tax burden.

Perdue says the initiatives will be included in her proposed state budget next week.

Speaking Thursday at a roundtable with western North Carolina business leaders, she outlined the following proposals:

• Small-business tax relief, under which businesses with less than $100,000 in annual profits can exempt the first $25,000 of net income from state tax. Businesses with profits between $100,000 and $200,000 would be able to exempt the first $15,000.
