President Barack Obama spoke out against Amendment One on Friday.

The Obama campaign issued a statement Friday that opposes Amendment One, calling it a “divisive and discriminatory effort.” If passed in May, the amendment would constitutionally define marriage in North Carolina as a union between one man and one woman and make that type of union the only domestic legal union recognized by the state.

“While the president does not weigh in on every single ballot measure in every state, the record is clear that the President has long opposed divisive and discriminatory efforts to deny rights and benefits to same sex couples,” said Cameron French, his North Carolina campaign spokesman.

“That’s what the North Carolina ballot initiative would do — it would single out and discriminate against committed gay and lesbian couples — and that’s why the President does not support it.”

Let this also serve as a gentle reminder to vote.

  1. Why do I CARE?

Because gay marriage is a clinched fist in the face of natural law that will undermine the foundations of a civilized society. You can kiss religious freedom, rights of children and any rational idea of a complementary relationship between the sexes good-bye. Gay marriage will radically alter the intrinsic nature of society at all levels because it primarily affirms that marriage is about sexual choiceโ€ฆnot reproduction. It is in essence, self-inflicted extinction. It is a Pandoraโ€™s box of all kinds of unforeseen societal conflicts.

  2. tony661’s comment is the most brilliant satiric piece I have ever read. His ability to convincingly sound like a close-minded, paranoid and homophobic piece of shit is nothing short of genius.

Wait, you say he’s serious, and that the comment isn’t a gag? That he himself is a close-minded, paranoid and homophobic piece of shit? Yikes.

  3. Gosh Tony. Let me see if I understand you.

Two people of the same gender forming committed family unit will interfere with your religious freedom? How, exactly will it interfere with the rights of children? How will it alter the the intrinsic nature of a society where 50% of marriages end in divorce, two thirds of of children are born to unmarried women, and an ever enlarging percentage of couples never marry, but just live together until they tire of each other and then move on?

Marriage is NOT primarily about reproduction. Many married couples never reproduce, and sex as an expression of love continues LONG after reproduction is no longer possible.

No matter how much YOU would like sex to exist solely to produce children, you are wrong. Most people engage in sex because it is pleasurable.
