In this blog, I wrote yesterday about the grotesque statements regarding Haiti from Rush Limbaugh and Rev. Pat “Giving religion a bad name for over 30 years” Robertson. The more I think about them, though, the more the two statements seem related, in that they represent two of the worst attributes of the American far right wing: racism and conspiratorial mumbo-jumbo. Both of which are the results of another common trait on the right: blatant, willful ignorance.

Limbaugh exposed, once again, what a kneejerk racist he is; not only by claiming that Pres. Obama wants to use the Haitian disaster to “boost his credibility with the light-skinned and dark-skinned black community” in the United States, but by the simple fact that his automatic first reaction to the catastrophe was racial. Plus, do you think that if the earthquake took place in, say, Canada, Limbaugh would be so dismissive of the tragedy? Or have the nerve — this is still mind-boggling — to argue against aiding the survivors?

Robertson, for his part, embodies the kind of superstitious, conspiratorial B.S. you hear all the time from the right wing fringes, e.g., the “gay agenda”/”Obama’s a communist”/“birther” bleatings of the right’s sheep.

What’s worrying is that these nuts, i.e., those who agree with the Limbaughs and Robertsons of the world, think they’re the basis of a grassroots movement that should be running the country. Those who pay attention to history may remember other such “grassroots movements” based on fear and prejudice and how well they governed once in power.

  1. Its usually the left that pulls the race card. Limbaugh unfortunately plays the same racial games as the left. More proof that there is virtually no difference between left and right.

  2. Grooms, you are an utter fool. You took the bait and bit down hard. Rush proves again that he can tweek the media and they run with it. Listen to the show if you are going to comment on it stooge.

  3. Actually in listening to Limbaugh I think he qualifies as a liberal now!
Supports the income tax, loves big spending politicians, unapolegetic drug addict, tries to play the race card to his advantage — yep a liberal!!! Him and Grooms are two sides of the same coin.

    El Rushbo the liberal behemoth…lol

  4. Never judge a book by it’s cover. A little political history for those who still think Hitler was a socialist. Hitler *called* his party the National Socialist Party, however it was most definitely a fascist political ideology that drove his policies; in other words, he established an aristocratic capitalist system with state control (true socialism gives ownership to the people as a whole). This is much the same sort of misnomer as communist East Germany calling itself the German Democratic Republic – it was neither, it was a puppet dictatorship with the same communist system as the Soviet Union. Socialists and communists, as a group, constituted a large number of Germany’s political prisoners during the Third Reich. Hitler was no more a socialist than Rush Limbaugh.

  5. So its kinda like Limbaugh is upset that Stalin rather than Hitler is head of state…makes sense….lol.

  6. Yes they are interchangeable. It’d be great if one day we could have a real true system of pure capitalism.
