David Lineberger, 50, went to church.
Then he was arrested and placed in jail under a $1 million bond.
Why?
Lineberger, according to the Gaston Gazette, is a sex offender.
Gaston County Sheriff’s officers charged Lineberger on Sunday with being at Southminster Presbyterian Church, which is located at 1401 Hoffman Road, Gastonia.
The church has a nursery on premises and also a weekday school, according to the warrant affidavit.
Lineberger was convicted in 1995 and served a 70-month sentence. He also was ordered to stay on the sex offender registry a minimum of 10 years.

The sex offender hysteria has developed a life of it’s own.
Were it not for Penn State, I’d agree with you.
MAYBE HE DIDN’T KNOW THAT BEING A REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER MEANS U CAN’T BE AROUND CHILDREN. PASTORS AND CHURCH PEOPLE MAKE HOUSE CALLS. CAN’T FAULT SOMEBODY FOR TRYING TO DO RIGHT OR FIND RIGHTOUSNESS
We should just start making them wear scarlet ‘P’s
HELLOANONYMITY:
I have a challenge for you. Try to spend 48 consecutive hours without “being around” any children.
In case you haven’t noticed, children are pretty much everywhere.
Let me tell you all something a sex offender is a sex offender. He was given this sentence for a reason – because he hurt a child or children. I have no doubts that he was thoroughly instructed to stay away from children. How about this…let’s create a society for only sex offenders and let them have their own churches where they can worship, jobs provided by other sex offenders, where they can have all their freedoms without fear of being arrested and society can live freely without concern that our children will be molested or die at the hands of these people. Excuse me, but he committed a crime and part of his sentence is to stay away from children. Do not EVEN minimalize the severity of his crimes. I pray that none of you will ever experience the anguish of personally knowing a victim of child abuse.
