Good news on the fiscal cliff front: North Carolina legislators in Washington, D.C., say they are willing to compromise on some “hardened positions” to reach a deal before Bush-era tax cuts end and other costs go into effect, increasing taxes for all Americans.
According to the Charlotte Observer’s Washington correspondent, some Republican representatives said they are willing to break no-tax-increase pledges, including Grover Norquist’s longstanding Americas for Tax Reform pledge.
Interviews with eight of the 15 Republican and Democratic members of the N.C. congressional delegation indicate that they are willing to negotiate on taxes and entitlement programs, including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. But they acknowledge negotiations will not be easy with politicians striving to maintain their favored federal programs or tax cuts.

No politician wants to go into the next election cycle being responsible for driving off the cliff. On the other hand all politicians want to try to make the other team look like THEY are responsible for NEARLY driving us off the cliff.
I therefor predict that there will be daily press briefings that resemble the election ads we have just finished with until the last possible moment at which time they will either announce a compromise or they will find a way to kick it down the road and deal with it later.
