Former CNN host Lou Dobbs wins the weekly Stupid Thing of the Week award for making a fool of himself on Tuesday. That’s not big news in itself – Dobbs’ anti-immigrant ravings and his embrace of the “birther” loonies was proof enough that he’s gone off the rails, not to mention his delusions about running for president. But in an interview on his radio show with Sen. James Inhofe (R-Paleolithic Age), the Senate’s No. 1 climate change denier, Dobbs may have topped himself when he slammed President Obama for working on an international climate change treaty.
Earlier, Obama said he planned to pledge a provisional target for emissions standards at the Copenhagen conference on climate change next week. Nothing ironclad, just a pledge for a provisional target that would need to be enacted by Congress. Inhofe, as abysmally misinformed as usual, told Dobbs that Obama was going to commit the U.S. to emissions standards that haven’t been passed by Congress yet. Dobbs got all puffed up and pissed, and asked, “Who the hell does this president think he is?!”
Inhofe agreed, of course, and said, “I don’t know, because you can’t do that . . . this is not a kingdom.” To which the ever-quick Dobbs blurted, “Not yet!”
Somehow, Dobbs didn’t seem to mind it when President Bush did whatever he pleased — wiretap Americans, throw people in jail forever without charges, torture prisoners, decide which parts of legislation he would obey — regardless of the law. I guess Dobbs only gets mad about illusory presidential power grabs.
What a couple of doofuses, ranting about something Obama didn’t do, nor even plan to do — as if the actual facts of the situation need to be fit into their opinions and paranoid fantasies. Which, come to think of it, is pretty much the standard operating procedure for the ultra-right these days. Listen to the Dobbs/Inhofe accusations here.

Where do you get “remaining data has been modified” from? Surely not the common usage of the word “trick” in lieu of “simple technique”?
Obama’s actions raise the question of how can the president do such unconstitutional things?
I think Dobbs n co like to blame illegals but dare not question the welfare state or US economic and foreign policy that subverts free market capitalism and causes these problems.
This is the problem of the imperial presidency. The president uses executive orders as if he were an emperor.
Obama thinks he is an emperor. And he is. He is the emperor of the Global American Empire. Decades of bipartisan centralization of power in the executive branch has resulted in this monstrosity. That and the states laying down and refusing to stand up to this federal giant.
So Dobbs & Inhofe are left complaining about what the Obama is doing with that power rather calling for a drastic reduction in that power.
So the right will complain about the domestic socialism, the left will complain about the police state and warfare state. No one but true libertarians call for a reduction.
