Sen. Jim Bunning: Where am I and why are these people talking to me?

Jim Bunning’s at it again. You remember former major league pitcher and current U.S. Senator from Kentucky, Jim “Screwball” Bunning, right? The dementia-addled GOP senator who held up unemployment benefits for millions of laid-off workers until his own party leaders convinced him to get back on his meds? Yeah, that Bunning — the honorable lawmaker who’s so loopy and unpredictable, his party is forcing him out of Congress at the end of the year. Bunning, though, is one nut who’s not afraid to keep building on his whacked-out reputation, even in the face of widespread ridicule — which qualifies him for our weekly Stupid Thing of the Week prize.

On Tuesday, Bunning fought to block two Obama administration nominations — for a Deputy U.S. Trade Representative and a Chief Agriculture Negotiator (unanimously recommended by the Senate Finance Committee, which Bunning is on, three months ago) — because … here it comes … Bunning is opposed to a tobacco-related law passed by the Canadian Parliament. I wish I was kidding, but this is the level of pure lunacy at work in BunningWorld. I wonder if anyone has looked into how many times the former pitcher was hit in the head while batting for the Phillies?

  1. Not quite sure where Green came from but all is well! Thanks so much for coming out to the show!

  2. I thought the GOP was against socialism? Unemployment benefits are pure socialism, plain and simple…They are paying you NOT to work. There’s always jobs, not as high paying, but there’s always jobs!

Here’s a telling phrase Grooms wrote: GOP senator who held up unemployment benefits for millions of laid-off workers until his own party leaders convinced him to get back on his meds?
    — the establishment GOP got Bunning to continue the scam…wow!

  3. Ignoring for the moment all the multitude of regulations restricting the market. There’s always a job to do. Mcdonalds, Walmart, UPS, Burger King — these are ALWAYS hiring. People can get a job if they want to.
