Good ol’ Sue is at it again. The Carolinas’ Princess of Paranoia is now all aflutter and agog over the protests and turmoil in Egypt. Many of you may see the impending end of the brutally corrupt Mubarak regime as a positive thing for the Egyptian people, but not Sue Myrick. Ever vigilant against any and all scary brown people, the Charlotte congresswoman says the Egyptian protests could bring about WORLDWIDE RADICAL MUSLIM RULE! that would destroy everything precious on Jesus’ green Earth, turn us into Muslims’ slaves, and probably even outlaw Amway!!!
Myrick sent out a link to her new YouTube video on the Muslim Brotherhood, the 80-year-old movement that she claims wants to use extreme violence to rule over all our lives! Arggghhhh! Sue’s intro to the little film (the first in a series, we’re warned) is particularly interesting for her goofy, exaggerated head motions, eye popping, and slathered-on makeup job.
The usual right-wing nuts are using the Muslim Brotherhood as their latest boogeyman, saying it’s a violent, extremist sect that started al-Qaeda and is now out to enslave the world. For a more fair and balanced (to coin a phrase), sane look at what the Muslim Brotherhood is today, as well as its history, link here to a New York Times report. The short version: The Muslim Brotherhood was, indeed, once a violent Islamist group, and al-Qaeda’s second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahri, started out in the MB. He quit the MB because they he saw them as wussy cowards who couldn’t build a decent bomb if their lives depended on it (or something like that). These days, al-Qaeda hates and condemns the MB for having renounced violence and for even participating in Egyptian elections. After decades of being harassed, squelched and tortured by Egyptian authorities, the MB is so browbeaten and weak, it didn’t even have the nerve to support the Cairo street protests at first, for fear of being accused of starting the whole thing. But those are the big, bad Muslim terrorists that Myrick wants you to be up in arms about. Hysterical paranoia is the defining characteristic of America today. Americans are afraid to get on an airplane or go anywhere large crowds gather unless everyone is searched by some person who appears to be in charge. Ever increasing numbers of people are packing guns to defend themselves from the Bogey man they see in every shadow. People are afraid to let their kids play outside without an adult to protect them.
It’s pathetic and disgusting.

I wonder what she thinks about Sinn Fein? Are they the same as they were 80 years ago? 15 years ago?
Maybe given the opportunity to participate in electoral democracy, they will live by the rule of law under a democracy.

Radical Islam is bent on worldwide jihad. We ignore this at our peril. It may not happen in our lifetimes, but Islam is very patient. The ignorant and the de facto complicit believe this is “paranoia.”
