Stephen Bannon, director and producer of the Sarah Palin documentary The Undefeated, says he didn’t make the movie for people who already love the former Alaskan governor. He’s out to change the minds of those who mock her.

Interesting.

The movie will be shown in the Charlotte area, starting Friday at the AMC Concord Mills 24 (not in Charlotte, which is a pretty blue city). Bannon said the film has tested well in “liberal markets” like Los Angeles and he hopes and expects it to do well in Charlotte.

“We’re trying to roll (the film) out and test it in limited release. We had such a strong response last week in the red states that we’re expanding it in Atlanta and we’re testing areas of Charlotte now,” he said in a phone interview. “There is a big Tea Party group down there from South Carolina, and we’re trying to test it and see how it does.”

Movie critics have panned The Undefeated, but Bannon said the film was made for working-class Americans so that they can understand a side of the governor that the mainstream media doesn’t report on.

“I made this film for people who probably don’t know much about Governor Palin and what they do know, they don’t like. I made this movie for people who think she is Caribou Barbie, a bimbo,” he said.  “The story I tell, you see her life and what she’s accomplished and how she’s fought the establishment. You’ll come away with a very different perspective. You may not like her politics and she may rub you the wrong way personally, but you will certainly admire her grit and tenacity.”

Huffington Post columnist Amy Siskind wrote about The Undefeated, saying it’s a movie that she wished Hillary Clinton had made during the 2008 election because it shows Palin without sexism.

The Undefeated is providing such an important service by, finally, introducing Sarah Palin. True, the producer Stephen Bannon does share the same political ideology as Governor Palin, and so has a point of view (as Bannon aptly points out, so does Michael Moore in producing his documentaries). Yet, it’s hard to watch the film without tripping over the facts: the character of Sarah Palin and what has she accomplished. Seems pretty basic, yes. Yet, our country has yet to know Governor Palin beyond the initial smear job done on this woman as she entered the national political arena.

Bannon said the film tells the story of how Palin took on the corrupt Alaskan system of government and big oil — a tale he said has been left out of the discussion of the former governor.

“It’s the way the mainstream media has crafted her. I didn’t not interview Gov. Palin for this film,” he said. “The conditions that I laid down when me and my partners put the money up was that she would have no involvement.”

Bannon went back and got archival footage of what was happening when it was happening. “The film is crafted around that and you’re in the moment.”

In many screenings, Bannon said there have been standing ovations at the end.

“It blows people away,” he said. “I’m very confident that we have something that works for an audience because it is an untold story. Think about it: 20 years ago, she’s working on a commercial fishing boat, she’s a blue collar person. Her dad’s a school teacher, doesn’t make any money. Her mom is a housewife. She comes from no money, she’s not a part of the cultural elite or the political elite. She’s never been a part of the establishment; she’s a very anti-establishment figure. That story is what resonates.”

  1. I would go and see it. I’m her number one fan and one of the few who knows her real identity.

A Coup d’etat began with Sarah Palin’s run for office in the 2008 presidential election.

She was planted as McCain’s running mate for a reason. Everything about her is a total fabrication. If you think McCain and Sarah planned on “reforming Washington” by getting elected you’re wrong. In addition, when a Coup happens the military doesn’t announce it on the front page of USA Today. They try and keep a lid on it.

Whether you believe it or not it’s the truth. Obama is not the president, he’s the acting president. He disappeared for 2 weeks after his election win only to reappear looking exhausted sitting next to John McCain, with a bad poker face, for a press photo shoot. Obama is now a Pentagon puppet.

Here’s what Obama, Osama, Biden, Bin Laden, the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists, and Sarah Palin had to do with the last presidential election and the military’s overthrow of our government. This isn’t a joke and you won’t read about this in the news because the news is heavily controlled.

  2. Sarah will never sell herself short. This film is simply another publicity stunt to make Palin what she really wants…. not the presidency, but cold hard CASH. Palin is for $ale and is making it rich on your dime with every book, speaking engagement, and movie ticket that markets her image and sells her looks (it’s certainly not her choice of words which got her this far.) Check out this very scandalous portrait of her erotically rolling in the dough on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/06/ecstasy-of-sarah-palin_15.html

  3. Brandt … Have you never heard of a politician writing a book before? Barack Obama has written several of them and he has made MILLIONS of dollars just from book sales alone. Is he only out for cash? So what do you have against Sarah Palin? Is she not allowed to make a living? Especially after being thrown into near bankruptcy by the insane anklebiters who filed more than 35 frivolous lawsuits against her after her return from the campaign trail.

Again, have you never heard of politicians giving paid speeches? Is this totally something you’ve NEVER heard of? Mayor Rudy Guiliani earns several hundred thousand per speech. Same with Bill Clinton and Al Gore.

So what do you have against Sarah Palin?

As for you painting, it looks nothing like Sarah Palin. I guess you might want to go back to art school, or stick to painting ugly liberal women.

Sarah Palin is too beautiful for your skill set apparently.

  4. “Her dad’s a school teacher, doesn’t make any money. Her mom is a housewife. She comes from no money, she’s not a part of the cultural elite or the political elite.”

Here’s my problem with this statement. Right after highschool, she was sent by her parents to not ONE resort college in Hawaii, but two (after she dropped out of the first one). She went to and dropped out of, a total of five colleges before getting a communications degree.

How did they afford it? It’s not like Hawaii had the best communications program out there. It almost always costs about half as much to send kids to college in their home state.

Where did this poor, average, nice single income family get such a freakish amount of money for Sarah’s college? She didn’t have grades, neither school she went to in Hawaii focuses on academics…look at their sites…they’re more like advertisements for resorts than colleges.

    Just doesn’t add up.

  5. i can’t see paying hard earned cash just to see a too long running infomercial of half truth, and critical Facts simply left out. what about the k. couric interview? why get so on the defensive toward this woman when, during this interview she just couldn’t answer the simplest of questions-*what do you read???she has hashed, then rehashed over this interview…trying every angle to leave egg on the interviewer(courics)face for going on years now. doesn’t it seem rather strangely obsessive-even to her fans, that she just can’t let it go?!!she has gone after couric, and made an absolute fool of herself in doing so.that’s one of the Many reasons why she’s never going to make it to 2nd base in this election. the woman’s DUMB.cant think on her feet. willyfully UNEDUCATED. and a CHRONIC LIAR.sarah welcomes grandchild #3.

  6. iknow you meant willful, marcus.they had to stand outside and offer free tickets when she came here.

  7. ugly liberal women??those are pretty strong words…your *homegirl, sarah looks like an old washed up streetwalker in the newsweek pics. looks like she’s posing for Hustler.

  8. I strongly recommend the movie “Being There”.

It will help people understand Sarah Palin.

  9. For all the complaints by liberals abotu how smart she is she somehow did pretty good as governor. No one is an expert at even half the issues. Palin seemed to have good advisors and common sense. This is much more than we can say about Barry.

  10. Yes, Billy Bob, Sarah Palin is smart, even though she is as ill-informed, or completely ignorant, on more issues than any politician I’ve ever friggin heard of. Yes, she did a good job as governor, especially when she quit halfway through her only term to start raking in cash as a tea party pin-up. She was a great mayor, too, except for the fact that the town had a balanced budget when she started and she left office with the town deep in debt – I guess she’s “good” in the same way Bush was good for the economy, then. Let’s face it, she’s got the look you like and you’re hot for teacher, but don’t try to tell anyone she’s smart, or was a good governor, much less a halfway decent parent, or anything, really, but a narcissistic dumbass baby factory.
