Well it seems that Vanity Fair has decided to put embattled Tiger Woods on the cover, only with photos taken four years ago by Annie Leibovitz. Surprise, surprise — he looks like he’s on a prison yard, bare chested and all. Like me, he looks better with his clothes on. At any rate, Leibovitz has done what she always does — take the black man back to his most primitive and primal image. Yet another plantation fantasy reminiscent of O.J.’s Time Magazine cover where he was actually darkened. Tiger is looking more “bl” than “cau” and “asian” in this one. He definitely looks darker in complexion and posture. Perhaps Leibovitz should focus less on perpetuating stereotypical images of EVERYONE and more on managing her money.

  1. Could not agree more. Before I even read your comments and had seen the pic I had the same thoughts. Moral of the comment, if you’re a black man( and Tiger is in the eye of the white man(and woman), no matter what he calls himself, don’t mess with our white women, whether you beat them up, kill them, or just cheat on them.

  2. ms. burton you intimate in your submission that because the photographer’s picture of the philandering golfer shows a darker skin tone that there is a malicious reason.
why the dark skin is a problem, is very indicative of your and many other black people’s own self hatred.
no matter what shade of black you are to the world you are still black there are not degrees of blackness.

  3. My fellow readers, I think in 2010 we should all resolve to turn the other cheek instead of bashing Frank Griffin no matter how hateful he turns towards everyone else. I noticed that in the last few hours on New Years Eve when the rest of us were spending time with family and friends, Frank was spending his time writing several posts on this blog. This tells me that while the rest of us were with loved ones he was all alone and bitter, friendless and with a family that doesn’t want him around. Such a man should be pitied, not hated. Let’s do our best to tolerate him in the new year. Peace and God bless.

  4. How do we know that this isn’t the look that TIGER was going for. If it was taken 4 years ago maybe he asked for a picture to make him look more tough or not so much of a “golfer” goodie goodie. Race never even popped into my mind until I started to read articles about it. How does someone look “More black” how does someone look “More white”? If i were to take the exact same picture (i’m white) would people look at it and think i’m trying to look more “Black” ?? What came to my mind was edgy, or masculine. Not dangerous black man in prison. If you look for racism, you’ll find it, even if it’s not there.

  5. Give Tiger a break. He’s no more a slave than any other big-time media figure. He’s usually not black enough, and now he’s too black? What’s wrong with making him look darker? Isn’t that better than making him look lighter? Find a person of any complexion and I’ll find photos of them with varying degrees of that complexion.

The pictures are bad-ass on purpose. Whites and blacks put him on a pedestal, but what a surprise, lesson learned, he’s a human being.
