Check out these events going down in Charlotte and the surrounding area this weekend— as selected by the folks at Creative Loafing.

Friday, April 3

Art: Head to Dialect Gallery tonight for the opening reception of the Gentrify Me art exhibition, a group art show – featuring 11 artists, including Antoine Williams, Creative Loafing photographer Jasiatic and more – aimed at presenting various perspectives on urban decay and neighborhood redevelopment.

Festival: Get outta’ the closet and over to The Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Community Center for the GayCharlotte Film Festival. For three days – starting Friday, April 3 and running through Sunday, April 5 – the fest will feature more than a dozen local films, shorts, documentaries and more.

Theater: You can’t get much more existential than this. In Jean Paul Sartre’s play, No Exit, three characters are thrown together in a room to do some deep thinking. Check out a performance at Carolina Actors Studio Theatre.

Saturday, April 4

Theater: Brace yourselves for love, lust, seduction, betrayal and more as Queen City Theatre Company brings performances of Dangerous to the stage of Duke Energy Theatre.

Music: Rock out and dance along to music from Gringo Star at Snug Harbor.

Food: Bite into a Greek gyro, falafels, burgers and more at Casablanca Café: Moroccan, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean Food and Pastries. Also, be sure to try the rghaif.

Sunday, April 5

Special Event: The Food Lion AutoFair at Lowe’s Motor Speedway isn’t just any car show. It’s big and features a variety of makes and models from more than 50 clubs, in addition to vendors with everything from auto parts to memorabilia and more.

Food: Go to Blu Basil Café to grab some tasty brunch, lunch or dinner at a good prices.

Theater: It’s your last chance to laugh about silly opposite-sex relationship bouts at this final performance of Defending the Caveman at Booth Playhouse.
