With deadline to sign up for health insurance just six days away, CharMeck library to hold info sessions throughout this week

With the deadline to sign up for health insurance just six days away (March 31), the Charlotte-Mecklenburg library will host a series of information sessions at its main campus throughout the week featuring the Legal Services of the Southern Piedmont. The sessions will answer questions related to the business side of the Affordable Care Act – tax questions, etc. – and health and fitness. Sign up for the information sessions here, and sign up for insurance through healthcare.gov.

If you don’t have health insurance this year, you’ll have to pay a fee, which is calculated in two ways. You’ll be liable for whichever is the highest:

– 1 percent of your yearly household income.

– $95 per person for the year and $47.50 per child under 18. The maximum penalty per family is $285.

If you’re uninsured for just part of the year, 1/12 of the yearly penalty applies to each month you’re uninsured, according to Healthcare.gov. Learn more about late fees and exemptions here.
