Jesse James cheated on Sandra Bullock. Tony Parker cheated on Eva Longoria. Sienna Miller and Reese Witherspoon both got cheated on with the nanny. And if Halle Berry can get cheated on, all women are screwed.

Let’s face it: No woman is safe from infidelity.

You know how society handled these particular indiscretions?

By saying things like, “What do they expect, dating that kind of guy” (athlete, rock star, actor, bad boy, NASCAR driver).

We treat it as though that is standard procedure. Like it’s normal and acceptable behavior for athletes to have second phones to call their girlfriends on the road, and for actors to hire hookers or instill “goddesses” to have nightly orgys while their kids sleep at their ex-wives’ houses.

Or, “That’s what you sign up for being with that kind of guy.”

… No, actually that’s not what a woman signs up for. Not a real one at least. She signs up for a relationship. Just because a guy is an athlete or actor doesn’t put him above any woman or above the appropriate standards of relationships. Successful women don’t get that luxury. They’re often the victim of this jaded societal double standard. And to add insult to emotional injury, nice, normal guys are then reluctant to date them.

Men, you have to choose: Use the kind of girls who use you for money or have a deep, meaningful relationship with someone who cares about you.

You can’t have your cake home baked, eat it, and then go out to eat out, too.

Cake half eaten

Truth be told, a lot of these playboy player types are the most internally lonely, unhappy human beings. Because these guys are human, too. Just because their dicks are dipped in gold doesn’t mean they don’t have a heart. And they need love as much as anyone else. And sometimes deciphering between those who love them for who they are or what they do becomes hard, and they front like a player as their defense.

It makes sense, but it still doesn’t make it right.

If they’re honest about being an asshole, they’re a little less of a douchebag, at least. And these guys will always get hall passes in relationships … as long as women continue to give them. But why settle for being just “the #1” when you should be the ONLY ONE? This isn’t an episode of The Bachelor.

  1. Greatest perspective on this ever came from Bono’s interview on Larry King. Here’s a paraphrase:

King: “How do you handle the temptation that comes with worldwide fame? How do you remain faithful to your wife?”

Bono: [somewhat annoyed at the very question] “You EXCERCISE RESTRAINT, Larry.”

    So simple; so brilliant.

  2. Just another one-sided rant. Women cheat, too. It’s not JUST girls getting screwed over, guys get it, too. They simply don’t whine about it endlessly and make it a male/female showdown, because they have pride. There’s another factor; what if the intended DOESN’T love him like they should? What if the woman gets cold or selfish? Well, that’s acceptable because women should have it all their way. But, if a man treats a woman coldly and withholds sex, then she comes out justified if she cheats because the man is a being a big old meanie. Take the movie Alfie (which I only mention because I saw it recently); two of the women cheat on their husband/boyfriend with Alfie, yet they aren’t the ones who are labeled as players, just Alfie. But the married one’s husband doesn’t appreciate her…so what does she do? Seek comfort elsewhere. The girlfriend that cheats with him is mad at her mean old boyfriend. Justified. Another one is a lunatic, so Alfie breaks it off. But he’s the ogre because he couldn’t put up with her drug-laced crazy. Just a silly movie example, but it’s just the same in real life; women get by w/ shit, too. Sienna Miller cheated, but it’s never talked about because, again, most men don’t run whining and crying to the press and keep publicizing it for the whole world to know about it. She partied and sat on men’s laps in LA while Jude was working in NOLA. Yeah, Jude cheated, but if he had so much as just had a woman sitting on his lap, there’s hell to pay. Sienna got a pass. Woman cheat practically just as much as men.
Final observation, Victoria Beckham is still married to her cheating serial philanderer; why is he never mentioned? What about Chris Martin? Because the women want to protect the brand and don’t whine about it. Not saying it’s right or wrong if they do or don’t, it’s their business how they handle their private business and choose to stay together or part, but I’m just saying, media has everything to do w/ false perception. Sadie Frost cheated on her first husband(before Jude Law)and then divorced him and took their kid to go live with Jude, but you never hear about that, do you? Because Gary never flooded the media with his story.
Sorry for the rant, but I get tired of “men cheatin’ on women” tirades. Women need to take responsibility for their relationship roles, too.

  3. You only hear about the bad, never the good. I say there are way more people who are faithful than those who cheat. Male or Female. This is just another case of the media promoting the bad side of life.

Nothing to see here, move along.

  4. Eva Longoria was reported to have had several extramartial affairs on Tony Parker, Sara Evans was reported to have slept with over 11 men during her brief marriage. Famous men and famous women are going to cheat it is the nature of being famous. Too much tempation and too much time spent away from your family is a receipe for disaster. It doesn’t make it right but I also remember Tiger Woods losing millions of dollars in endorsements for doing something everyday people do. I don’t recall Leann Rimes losing millions of dollars of endorsements for cheating on her husband…if a man gets caught cheating and loses millions then what should happen to the famous women who is caught cheating?

I think that topic would be a much more interesting article to write…just saying.

  5. I really like the article… You can’t have home-baked cake, eat it and go out to eat to…truer words have never been written…now if the reader will read it and really get what it is tryin to say…

    Anyway bravo to the writer
