When mattress shopping, the act itself isn’t that difficult, really. Where your effort and thinking power is going to go is all of the things that you’re going to need to think about when narrowing down to which mattress you’ll get at the end. You’re going to need to make the effort of making a plan or going through several mattresses in the store until you’ve come to your last three beds – then it’s all personal preference at the last part.
So what are you going to need to consider when buying a new mattress for yourself anyway? What are the mistakes that should be avoided whenever you’re buying a new mattress? How should you go about your mattress shopping route if you don’t even know where to start? So calm down; those questions are going to be answered as you continue reading down the article!
First No-no: Buying A Mattress Just Based On Price
We understand that you probably don’t want to spend too long buying something as simple as a mattress to sleep on. Still, don’t be fooled by just the price tag before you even test out the bed! A mattress could cost you well over ten grand and still not last you for more than three years – in the end, you’re going to be the one on the losing end of the draw.
Your way around this mistake is to just focus more on the mattress materials. That way, you can truly see if a high price is justified with the best bed you can find. As long as you know that the quality of the materials used on the mattress is top-notch, then you’re not going to have to think twice about whether the bed is worth the money or not!
Second No-no: You’re Testing Out Too Many Mattresses
Trust us. You’re going to want to take a second of your shopping adventure to just sit on a mattress and face your belly to the sky but doing this too much may spell more doom for you. Instead of having a clear image of the mattress you want, you’re just going to end up with a jumbled mess in your head of the different mattresses you’ve tested out.
Want to know the best way to solve this? First, find out what type of mattress you’d like or what you’d need, then stick to the mattresses that are the same type and then thin out your mental list as you get closer to the mattress you’d like. First, try to get to a top-five or top three, and keep thinning your list out until there’s only one left in your list, then viola, that’s the mattress you should be getting.
Third No-no: Not Even Testing Out The Mattress
To counteract the second no-no, you should at least test out the mattress that you’re getting. There’s no point in spending on a mattress that you’re not going to be satisfied with, right? Buying a mattress that you’re not even sure of would just make more problems for everyone, including you! So make sure you at least test out two or three mattresses before making your final purchase.
Fourth No-no: Buying Based On Somebody Else’s Judgment
We’re not saying that you should not listen to what everybody else has to say – maybe just get the opinions of those close to you, you know, the ones you think are reliable. Maybe even consult your doctor because the mattress you might get may be helpful for that back pain that you’ve been experiencing the past few weeks or even months!
Don’t even start thinking that what people are experiencing every night with the same mattress you’re buying will be the same experience that you have! Unless you have entirely identical bodies, then you shouldn’t even consider the thought. Your body has its own needs – from the way you sleep to how you move when you sleep, to even the allergies you have!
Fifth No-no: Buying The Firmest Bed You Can Find
You might be one of the ones who are on board with the thought that having a firm bed means you’ll get great sleep, but sad to say, that’s not always the case. You should learn to consider your other options, especially when buying something you’ll be sleeping on every night. Who knows, maybe getting that bed that’s a little softer than your liking would be the best decision you’ve made when shopping.
Although we understand that the bed’s firmness is often associated with durability, it’s just going to be a pain in the back for you – literally. A bed that lacks softness would fail to relieve some of the pressure that your body weight puts on itself when lying down, so your bony parts(your shoulders, shoulder blades, and joints) are going to have a painful time. So think about getting something closer to the softer side on the scale.
Takeaway
As long as you don’t make these mistakes when buying a bed, you should be safe from making the wrong choice. Again, mattress shopping isn’t an arduous task per se, but it’s going to be a bother unless you have a definite list of what you want. Try going with that; make a list before leaving the house.
