Krispy Kreme debuted their Cheerwine Kreme Filled Doughnuts just in time for the Fourth of July.
The limited edition doughnuts will only be available in North and South Carolina grocery stores, and they’re only sticking around for one month.
Creative Loafing received a special delivery of the doughnuts this morning courtesy of Krispy Kreme and we got to try them out.
So what exactly is in them? A pink Cheerwine-flavored “kreme” is piped into a plain donut, glazed with chocolate, and topped with red and white sprinkles.
I’m not a big fan of Cheerwine, so these doughnuts weren’t my favorite. It sort of tasted like Robitussin to me. The aftertaste was pretty bad. A few people in the office said they were nasty, a few said they were amazing. Maybe if you are a Cheerwine fan, you’ll like these babies. Check them out for yourself.

It gets a point for being pretty.
I had to laugh at your comment about the donuts tasting like Robitussin! I’m not from this area originally and from the first time I tried the infamous Cheerwine, I’ve said that it tastes like cough medicine!
They are rather pretty, though. ๐
“I’m not a big fan of Cheerwine…”
Be careful. If you say that to the wrong North Carolinian, you could find yourself in a heap of trouble.
