โข At some point in your twenties, you move past “what can I drink to get completely wasted” to “what tastes good.” For me, it happened when I realized shots were no longer my friend. On Wednesday evening, there’s a great class hosted by the Charlotte Beer Babes that will help you transition to that sophisticated drinker you always wanted to be. Learn from a BJCP-certified Cicerone how to taste beer, and also take part in an off-flavor tasting. Admission includes light apps and all tasting beers. As this is a late notice, make sure to hit up the Babes on the Facebook event page to make sure there’s room.

โข I learned something really interesting about oysters while editing the food feature coming out in this week’s paper that I’m ashamed to admit I’d never considered: Eating raw oysters equals eating live oysters. Lightbulb! Feast on your fair share at Triple C Brewing’s Harvest Fest and Oyster Roast on Saturday. With bluegrass from The Josh Daniel/Mark Schimick Project playing in the background, taste the winners from a recent home brew competition. Also, feel good knowing $5 from the admission ticket will go to Friendship Gardens.

Apparently, they’re finally coming to Charlotte by way of someone named Rodney. On Saturday, let’s all agree to meet up at this Pop-Up Ramen event at 7th Street Public Market and see what this is all about. Here’s to the power of social media. Oh, and to Rodney.
