The godfather of funk, George Clinton, received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Boston’s Berklee College of Music on Feb. 16. Clinton, who was born in Kannapolis, N.C., is best known as the mastermind behind 1970s funk bands Parliament, Funkadelic and every P-Funk reincarnation since then.

Clinton, who cut off his trademark rainbow hair in 2010, received the degree at the end of a four-day residency at the college during a ceremony which included a performance by the band.
