On Friday, May 25, an evening of music and memories of Miles Davis will be held as a benefit for sickle cell patients. The event, which is hosted by the Sickle Cell Regional Network in cooperation with the Charlotte Music Awards, will be held at the Wadsworth House, 400 S. Summit Ave.
Celebrating the birthday of Davis, the event will feature a rare appearance by trombone player Wayne Henderson, one of the members of the Jazz Crusaders, who describes his music as “(letting) your ears taste the music like your palate tastes food!”
Henderson, along with saxophonist Wilton Felder, produced the memorable sounds of the Jazz Crusaders beginning in 1961. He left the group in 1975, only to return in the mid-1990s.
The night, which begins at 7 p.m., will also include a silent auction of an unpublished photo of Miles Davis by celebrity photographer Stanley Newton.
For more information, or to make reservations, call 704-332-4184. Seating is limited. The admission of $72 is tax-deductible.
