Fantasia Barrino

Ovens Auditorium

Nov. 10, 2010

The Deal: There’s really no place like home and former American Idol Fantasia Barrino proved this as she performed in front of a packed house at Ovens Auditorium.

The Good: Fantasia’s stage performance was incredible and instead of ignoring the spinning controversy surrounding her personal life, the singer used her pain to fuel her fire. Highlights were her singing chart topping songs like “Bittersweet,” “When I See You” and “Even Angels.” But one of the rawest moments actually occurred during a wardrobe change as a clip played showing Fantasia, adorned in ’50s style garb, saying simply “f*ck it” when asked what she thought about what people were saying about her. She performed for roughly an hour.

The Bad: Despite the quality of her voice , unless you were a die-hard fan, many of the songs she chose were, well…unrecognizable. Fortunately, she sounded so good she could’ve sung “I’m a Little Teapot” and the crowd still would have been rocking. And of course, in true Fantasia form, the shoes came off during one song. Anything involving feet automatically falls in the bad category. Should also be noted that Kandi Burress, who was scheduled to open the show, did not perform.

The Verdict: Fantasia put on a great show. She belted out anything and everything she sang with power and control and wasn’t afraid to work the stage and get into her performance. All those elimination rounds at Idol definitely paid off because it was obvious she felt completely comfortable in front of the audience of thousands. If you missed the “Back to Me” Tour no worries because the Charlotte resident is sure to be performing locally for many years to come.

  1. Thank you for posting this. Fantasia is Phenominal and i don’t care what ANYone says, she is the BEST out there right now.. Vocally and especially LIVE! Recongize PPL and stop hating.. Fantasia… Time to take it the fuck over~!

  2. I agree Fantasia’s stage pressence is WONDERFUL!

I disagree that the songs she sung were unrecognizable. She sang every song from her new album and isn’t that the purpose of touring to promote your current album???

  3. I can’t see her this time because of the recession but I youtube her to death. Everybody’s correct. That young woman is unique, awesome. Just DAMN “GREAT”. I got her CD and it’s really better than good, better than “GREAT”. Thank You Fantasia
