For many people involved in the Charlotte music scene, the name Joshua Panda is a familiar one. He, of Humans, Autumn in August and Eyes of the Elders, packed up and headed north to Vermont not so long ago. Since living there, one can only imagine the musical havoc he’s been causing up there — and that’s meant in the kindest sense of the word.
Panda is an incredibly talented songwriter and musician who’s got vocal character as much as onstage persona. He often travels back this way and he’s set to hold a pre-release party for his latest CD, What We Have Sewn, at The Evening Muse on Nov. 13.
His latest musical efforts have been acoustic-based, along with a drummer, piano, upright bass and electric guitar — landing somewhere between folk and rock with hints of jazz mixed in. Singing about “shooting the pastor in a pasture” or “biscuits and gravy,” his lyrics have as much heart as they do humor.
