I love Hanson BECAUSE…
of many reasons.
One, they are a strong-willed band dedicated to their art and have been for many years. They were turned down by 14 record labels before they were finally signed. Then, some years later, realizing that being on a major label didnt give them the freedom of creativity they wanted, they then created their own record label, 3CG Records.
Two, their live shows are always packed full of energy and they give their very best to the fans at each show.
I suggest everyone giving the new album, ‘Shout It Out’, a good listen before knocking Hanson. “MMMBop” was 13 years ago. The guys have grown up and so has their music.
Pick me pick me for the ticket giveaway!! 🙂 Please please!
Definitely have loved how their sound has changed since they were kids. Count me in! Would love to see them (again!) at Amos’s.
I remember a time in middle school when all the guys were talking one day about how hot Taylor Hanson was, only to become deathly silent on the subject after finding out he was a guy.
When I was 13 years old, I fell in love with Hanson because their music was fun and, come on, they were soooo dreamy. I tape recorded their every TV appearance and had magazine subscriptions to every teeny-bopper magazine ever printed (you should have seen my bedroom; I didn’t have walls anymore, I had posters). Naturally, I was a paying fan club member and, for a few years, I was the North Carolina Street Team Leader. Over the past 13 years, I have been to a total of 9 concerts from Myrtle Beach, SC up to Baltimore, MD.
Through the years (I am now 26), the teenybopper obsession has died down considerably, but my love, respect and admiration for Hanson and their music has remained constant and strong. Their music is still fun to blast with the windows down on a warm, sunny day. They are still “so dreamy” (though all 3 are married with kids). I am in awe of the attention and dedication they have given to the children affected by the AIDS epidemic in Africa. But mostly, I admire their determination to change the music business — to steer it back on the path of being about MUSIC not BUSINESS. I respect how openly and honestly they fought this battle for the public to witness. But even more so, I respect that through their hardships, they never lost sight of their fans. All Hanson wants to do is play music and they faced years of adversity and took great risks to ensure that nothing and no one will stop them from playing music for their fans.
I still love Hanson (and always will) because since I was 13 years old, their music has been there for me. Hanson’s music was there for me when I was the new girl at a new high school. It was there for me when I was devastated by my first broken heart. It was there for me when I moved away to college. And it is still there for me to listen to and dance around to like I’m 14 again while I’m actually nearing my 30’s. Though I’ve only met the guys a few times, I feel as though I’ve grown up with them. Hanson will always be my favorite band and I have never been ashamed to say that (just ask anyone who knows me).
Disclaimer: please don’t judge any grammatical errors. I was an English major in college, but wrote this in 20 minutes while at work (sorry boss!). I adore Hanson. and would love to win the tickets so I can see them a 10th time (the only reason I haven’t bought tickets yet is because money is a little tight right now. eek.) Thanks for reading and yay Hanson!
When my girlfriend and I 1st started dating last fall, she asked me to go with her to see her favorite band, Hanson. I politely declined. Being a good sport, she didn’t press the issue. When Hanson came to Raleigh this passed July, my girlfriend begged me to go with her. This time around, I went. Much to my surprise and as much as I hate to admit it, I was quite impressed with the show. They are a talented bunch of guys. Ill never understand my girlfriends obsession with this band and her need to see them every time they come to NC, but I do understand why she likes their music. I would love to surprise her with tickets to this show. She is pretty bummed that I told her we couldn’t go because of other plans, but if I can win these tickets, I will cancel the other plans and surprise her. She’s a great girlfriend, she’s as loyal to me as she has been to this band over the years and I’d like to show her how much I appreciate her.
I have enjoyed reading other’s comments about Hanson! I’m glad to see that I am not the only fan left! LOL I have been a die-hard fan since I first heard MMMbop at a middle school dance. I just loved their songs, and of course their cute faces! I didn’t care who knew I was a Hanson fan, I would wear the shirts all the time, paint my nails with their logo, and sing their songs out loud in public! I have – literally – 10+ boxes and binders with Hanson magazines, posters, books, pin-ups, cds, tshirts etc. Even though I am now 28 and married, I still can’t bear to part with all my memorabilia. I, too, have tried to politely ask my husband to go with me to a Hanson concert and he finally said he would! What a great husband. My birthday is in November, so I think that is part of the reason he was so sweet to say he will go with me. The last time I saw Hanson was from the balcony at Oven’s years ago. The best concert was the one where my mom surprised me with 2nd row tickets at Blockbuster. It was great – they sprayed us with super soaker water guns! I would LOVE to see them again, even if they don’t use water guns any more:). I really think that my husband will like them. I will have to break out my oldest, thread bare t-shirt from their downtown Kiss 95.1 “no dough show” way back in ’97 and rock it at Amos!
I really want to win tickets, I’ve been in a tight bind for quite some time and I missed them when they were in Raleigh and Asheville earlier in the year and I haven’t seen them since the beginning of last year! I’ve been a fan since 1997 and have had a rough year. Winning tickets would be amazing.
