Q: What music are you listening to these days?
A: What a great fake question! Honestly, I’m kind of ashamed to admit that — although I’m usually pretty ahead of the curve when it comes to music — I discovered an artist recently by the name of Esperanza Spalding (pictured right) way after the fact.
Spalding has been kicking around the underground for a while now, but I only heard of her a few weeks ago. She even appeared on Letterman way before I checked out her music. So, I feel kind of wack.
But, luckily, Spalding’s bass-driven, jazz-tinged sound makes me forget about my own wackness and just enjoy the music. I suggest you go out and buy her CD, which is on sale now, or visit Creative Loafing‘s video blog — www.qccltv.com — and see her in action.
