Event will crown champion for pilot program’s inaugural season

Carolina Panthers Charities has provided CMS Athletics with a $50,000 grant and other resources to support success of the pilot program

The Carolina Panthers and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Athletics will celebrate the conclusion of the new CMS High School Girls Flag Football League Sunday, May 15 at Bank of America Stadium.

The Panthers and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Athletics previously announced the creation of the league on Feb. 1 at Bank of America Stadium with student-athletes participating in a high-energy ceremony on the game field that celebrated National Girls & Women in Sports Day. Twenty high school teams began league play earlier this spring as part of the pilot program’s inaugural season. All twenty teams will play their final two regular season games on Sunday at Bank of America culminating in semi-final and championship games.

The intramural/club-level program is designed to provide high school girls with increased access and opportunities to participate in the fast-growing sport of girls’ high school flag football, which has been sanctioned as a varsity sport in six states across the country. Carolina Panthers Charities has provided $50,000 in program funding, school resources and custom Nike school uniforms to support the success of the program.

The tournament at Bank of America Stadium is open to the public and free to attend. Select stadium concessions are available from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Spectators must enter through the stadium’s South Gate (Morehead Street side of the stadium). The NFL Clear Bag Policy will be enforced. Parking is available for purchase from various independent parking companies in the Uptown area, including the Legacy Union parking deck (720 S. Church Street).
