3. Chapel Hill (more than 6% decline in rent prices – good news for the college kids)

7. Mooresville
8. Raleigh
9. Charlotte
10. Matthews
In 2020, the average one-bedroom tenant can expect to pay around $1,145 per month, down 5.22 percent from $1,208 over the same period for the previous year. That’s a decrease of $63 a month.
Methodology
Rent prices are based on a rolling weighted average from Apartment Guide and Rent.com’s multifamily rental property inventory from April 2019 to April 2020. We use a weighted average formula that more accurately represents price availability for each individual unit type and reduces the influence of seasonality on rent prices in specific markets. *Cities were excluded if they did not have an average of at least 20 units in our available inventory during that time period.

Charlotte is not Cheap at all! It shouldn’t even be on this list or if it has to be, it should be the last on the list.
This entire article is FALSE! I live near Charlotte, work in Asheville, and I was looking to move to Mooresville. All of which have tremendous increases in rent year after year over the past 5 to 7 years.
Clayton is the only accuracy on this list. I’m currently in the process of relocating out of Charlotte and the rent rates have increased everywhere on this list except Clayton. In Charlotte there are more job opportunities that match the rent rates. However, the affordable rent rates are in undesirable areas or have horrible school districts. Greenville has 3 bedrooms for 1000-1500 but their job market has low salaries 10-$16 hourly and less employment opportunities. The Triangle Area, mirrors Charlotte. I think Greensboro, Knightdale, Gastonia, Wake Forest, and Fayetteville should have been on this list.
Like many others have said, I have no idea how Charlotte made this list. Charlotte is not cheap at all and depending on what you’re looking for it can get pricey and if you try to rent a house instead of an apartment, good luck to you finding one!
