A rock climbing instructor at Inner Peaks Climbing Center, Donovan Craig, who’s originally from South Africa, specializes in teaching folks how to climb without killing themselves in the process.

1) Rock climbing locations: There is a place up in Boone called Grandmother Boulders, which is a great place to go bouldering. Recently, I have been climbing at a place called Hidden Wall, which is at Crowders Mountain and I do lead climbing there. I have also been getting out to The New River Gorge in West Virginia; I’d definitely say it’s got the best climbing I have ever done.

2) Books: The Self-Coached Climber: The Guide to Movement Training Performance by Dan M. Haque and Douglas Hunter and One Move Too Many: How to Understand the Injuries and Overuse Syndroms of Rock Climbing by Sam Lightner Jr., Thomas Hochholzer, and Volker Schoeffl.

3) Music: “When training, I listen to a lot of upbeat, dance and techno-type music. That is my preferred favorite. And Jack Johnson is always good music to listen to.”

4) Movies: James Bond movies

5) Eateries: Deli Queen and The Cajun Queen.
