Author and CL columnist Hollis Gillespie is set to bring her Shocking Real-Life Writing Academy to Charlotte on Jan. 20.
According to Gillespie’s Web site, the one-day seminar is “designed to help you unleash your inner memoir” and will “offer her candid critiques, suggestions for selling your work, and answer all your questions about breaking into memoir writing.”
Space is still available for the seminar, which — she says — “includes finger food, champagne and inappropriate conversation.”
If you’re not familiar with her work, Gillespie created the popular and often bizarre Moodswing column for the Atlanta edition of Creative Loafing. Years later, she gained national fame by penning two memoirs: Bleachy-Haired Honky Bitch: Tales from a Bad Neighborhood and Confessions of a Recovering Slut: And Other Love Stories. Her third book, Trailer Trashed, is due out this summer.
