If you plan to be in the Raleigh area this Friday (March 16), check out the opening ceremonies for the cool art event “Hustle & Show” — featuring the art of famed “neo-pop” painter Fahamu Pecou. Here’s how Pecou describes the show (hosted at Flanders Art Gallery until April 12) and his work: “An exhibit designed to turn stereotypes of black masculinity on their ears. Playing on the public’s psychological reaction to magazines and preconceived ideas about who should be in them, Pecou began projecting his image and ideals on the covers of magazines. He further abstracted the concept by juxtaposing his character’s hip-hop bravado on fine art magazines.”
And on April 5, in conjunction with “Hustle & Show,” CL editor Carlton Hargro will take part in a panel discussion at Flanders titled, “It Might Blow Up, But It Won’t Go Pop.”
