Arena Hucksterism
To The Editors:
I want to thank Jeff Beaver of the Charlotte Regional Sports Commission for replying to my letter about the arena (“Arena In The Real World,” December 5), as his own words do so much more than mine ever could to demonstrate the dishonest hucksterism of the pro-arena crowd. First he parrots the Decade of B.S.’s lie that “the bundle wasn’t about the arena.” Fortunately, Charlotte voters knew better. Then he calls the Board of Directors of the CIAA liars disputing the Board’s press release which anyone can read on the CIAA website (www.theciaa.com). Finally, he throws a tantrum in the face of the truth about the economic benefits of sports teams (there aren’t any unless you’re an owner, player or contractor), ignoring my challenge to name one study contradicting the thirty-three on www.arenano.com. The challenge still stands, Mr. Beaver. Put up, or please shut up.
