After that column was published, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detective wrote that we weren’t completely up to date regarding popular murder euphemisms. The detective informed us that the unofficial term used around the department for the murder of an affluent person is “zip code homicide.” Translation: one that’s important enough to spend significant time investigating.
