A: I’ve got to admit, I’m not the biggest fan of political endorsements. I mean, I can’t imagine that too many voters will hold off picking a presidential candidate until they hear from their local newspaper.

That being said, this is an important election, and it’s important that people and organizations be clear about which candidate they are standing with.

So, for the record, Creative Loafing is standing with Sen. Barack Obama.

Surprise, surprise, right? A so-called “left-leaning” newspaper would go for a Democrat like Obama, right?

Well, er, yeah. But we’re not supporting the guy just because of his political affiliation. We’re supporting him because he is, without a doubt, the best candidate.

Yes, we’ve heard all the criticisms and arguments against Obama — one of the biggest complaints being that he’s nothing more than a great speaker. But, honestly, isn’t that what America needs right now?

We need a president who, instead of jumping headfirst into wars and international conflicts, will sit down and speak with any world leader. We need a president who will reach across party lines and speak with Republicans, Independents and whoever about the best ways to move our country forward. We need a president who will speak to big insurance companies so that Americans can get cheaper health care. We need a president who will speak to people around the globe and help to rebuild America’s standing in the world. And, most importantly, we need a president who will speak to the people of the United States and provide us with a hopeful vision of the future.

Out on the stump, Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin speak mainly about fear … specifically their fear of Obama in the White House.

Hope vs. fear.

This time around, we’re going with hope.
