How much money was raised for the Stop Aids Worldwide Project at the Closet event on 7/23? We heard the only people there were Single Cell staff, and they were all comped.
Me and my GF did not even know this was happening? Torch, Who was in charge of marketing???? Single Cell usually does a good job of getting the word out but not this time and it is so sad that the AIDS Project had to suffer from this.

It is obvious to many that Single Cell needs to quit “beating” a dead horse. The attendance at their events has dwindled to next to nothing. Their shows are mediocre erotic at best and most of the original staff are way past their prime. Fantasy Erotic should involve people you would actually fantasize about…. The shows are no longer worth spending the money to go see, it seems the only people impressed with Single Cell is.. well… uh…. Single Cell. Time to hang up your leather whips and paddles and trade your 1980 Goth tacky leather boots in for some hush puppies……..

I think you are all being a bit harsh! Single Cell is a FAMILY. We care about each other and support each other. Yes we are misfits, Yes we are your unwanted, Yes we are the social outcast but we are brothers and sisters none the less. We are here for our enjoyment not yours.
Single Cell is not a family by any means. It is a business and when you are no longer an asset to Torch you are discarded like last year’s fashion. Torch offers a “family acceptance” to all the goth kids that have noone. He then uses you to his finacial gain. Family? I guess that is kinda true,,,, everyone has those creepy old uncles that want to touch all the young girls while Fat Aunt Betty is in the other room. If any of these girls had any sense they would run! I know! Get some self esteem and quit being a whipping post and cheap entertainment for someone to make money off of!
Then don’t pretend to raise money for a cause when you can spend your time together at someone’s crib and enjoy each other. Make a decision: family or business…
As with most things in the world, the fetish scene evolves with time. Single Cell has not evolved at all, they are the same as they were 12 years ago. Same stuff just different faces. Most of the original audience of Purgatory have moved on in their lifes and there is an entire new fetish / goth crowd and they are not interested in Single Cell. They all hang out at Snug Harbor on Thursdays and do not even attend Single Cell Events. Many of the original members of the group have moved onto other fields of entertainment or have grown out of the “scene”. BUT… there are some that have not. Torch is a wonderful DJ and Emcee for many events, but some of his production crew needs a reality check. Unloading trucks of stage sets does not make you a show producer, and no you cannot get a free drink!
WOW! X you must be talking about Phoneix. Does he not know that he is a joke. I get so tired of his ego and BS. If I hear one more time about how he helped create Single Cell and how he has been here since the beginging, I am going to pour acid in my ears and burn my brain!
My 2 Cents. As a member of the GLBT community, I found it a bit offensive that Single Cell would think that we as a whole would be interested in that type of music and or show. We have spent years fighting the sterotypes that we are sexual deviates, so for Single Cell to bring this show to the Closet and expect us to support it was a slap in the face to the GLBT community. Your sexual fetish fantasy world has nothing to do with our community, and to think it does makes your judgement of us as bad as the far right’s thoughts of us. Our sexual please does not come from deviate behavior, our relationships are based on the love between 2 human beings. Your pseudo-lesbian role playing situations are designed for the hetro-sexual male fantasy and to the pleasure of your underground audience. I cannot believe that you would expect a community of gay men to come listen to that type of music and to watch fantasy dressed women spank each other. I am also offended that you would use the World’s AIDS Project as a calling card to attempt to draw the GLBT community to your event. Many of us have posed for these pictures and support this cause, but to use it in that manner was wrong of all involved.
I run the “Stop AIDS Worldwide Project” and I teamed up with Single Cell because I have been friends with them for years. AIDS doesn’t discriminate against anyone it enters every community. Torch and the gang at Single Cell did a great job of trying to merge two communities together for a common cause. Isn’t it equally offensive for the gay community to discriminate against the fetish community as it is for them to discrimnate against us? I don’t believe in such things. The project is open to everyone. It wasn’t being used as a tool or a ploy. I joined forces with Single Cell because they are a group of GOOD People. The turnout was poor yes, but Single Cell still donated more from this event than any other single group has. So lets stop playing the blame game here, and figure out what needs to be done to find acceptance between our two communities.
Keith, many people in the GLBT community has been photographed for your project and believe in it. BUT….. this was a mix of oil and water. If Single Cell wanted to do a fund raising event for Stop AIDS Worldwide Project within their community I think that is great, but just because they hold it at a Gay Bar does not mean that the Gay Community will support it. If this was an Alloy or Single Cell event, then that is the audience that should have supported it, which brings me to this point…. if this was a failure due to lack of attendance, then to me that says that their audience and followers are not interested in this cause. If they were they would have turned out for it. In the eyes of many, it was a chance for Single Cell to play this venue and make some money off of the Gay Boys. Can someone tell us, how the finances were broken up??? Who was to get the proceeds from the door? Was it a 100% proceeds from the door to charity, or was it after Single Cell took their cut of the door, the est went to Charity. In most cases, SCP pays to use the space and then keeps the door profits. This is why many believe he held it at the Closet, form Past events such as Just Twirl, The Closet hold a huge crowd. People in the GLBT community believe that they were banking on us coming to an AIDS events. This was a disaster from the begining. Keith, the community still believes and supports your Project. As with real life…be careful who you get in bed with.
I think the bottom line is SCP has exceeded its shelf life. Not to slam the individuals, but look at those pics and tell me those people aren’t caught in a time warp. There comes a time when you put away childish things and enter the adult world. Those who are truly living the BDSM lifestyle aren’t out at the clubs…those mocking it are. Let the kids play in a new sandbox, SCP, and the rest of you let a dying organization expire with some dignity.
You are right Spanish. In its day SCP had a place in the entertainment field, but those days are long past. The BDSM Goth Scene no longer has a mass appeal. It used to be worth the Shock Value to go see back in the begining, but once you have seen it there really is no need to return. Their events are more of a self indulgence party for themselves and those who have not been able to mature in life. I know of some who this is their life and have nothing else, that in itself is sad. I too used to attend Purgatory and was part of the crowd. I find it sad that they were not wise enough to go out in style, instead they have allowed it to die in front of everyone. I think they chose not to do it with dignity but maybe that is their masochistic way of doing it! I Agree, they do not need to be trashed, but I hope they realize all good things must come to an end!
I do not think trashing them or advising them to go out in style will make a difference. When the only thing in life is SCP, you have to continue to give it CPR even after it has long been brain dead. It is just so sad to see middle-aged men attempting to be “fetish stars”. DAMN! I heard about this thread this evening and had to read it. I thought I was the only one who thought this about Single Cell. I have watched this group continue to go down the tubes. It is sad, but it is a fact of life. There is a season.. turn, turn, turn. Their season is over and the sooner they realize it the better. There is a place for some of their girls in other venues. Torch will always land on his feet, he is a creative talented man. As for Phoenix, poor Danny needs to realize it is over. I think he is to blame for alot of SCP’s lack luster. He comes into our place, dressed like a 1980’s underground band roadie with an attitude that offends owners, employees and patrons of establishments. He believes he is important enough to be treated to free drinks and no cover charges for him and his girlfriend. Torch, wonder why other clubs don’t promote your events anymore? You do not have to look any further than your own errand boy. It is time to disband Single Cell and burn it in eulogy and let the wind carry the ashes away.
Okay then…let me get back to my original question. If Single Cell donated more than any other individual group has donated to the Stop Aids project, just how much did they contribute? $100, $1K, $10K? And from the comments here, it sounds like I need to ask how much Torch and Pheonix personally donated from their earnings at the event.
That is a good question Thunderman! Who made what? How much did the Closet make? How much SCP make? More important, how much did SAWP make? How many people paid the 10 cover charge and who got that money?
And I can guarantee the Phoenix gave nothing, he has nothing to give. He has always been a leach on other people. He uses his association with SCP to try to get no cover, and free drinks. But now he has a “Sugar Mama”, that seems to foot his bills, but obviously she does not make enough to buy him any new clothes or get his cleaned. You can smell them leather pants he has been wearing for 10 years coming through the door! I think they crunch as he walks! I am thinking they need to do an Alloy to buy him a toothbrush! The bottom line of this is, SCP is on it’s last leg unless it does a major house cleaning and revamps it’s image. Also the fact that while many people think the world of Torch and the many things he is involved in, he has allowed some people to leach onto SCP that has done more damage than good. Most of his staff understand the thought process behind these events. It is entertainment and a business. People like Danny aka Phoenix are not able to seperate fantasy from reality. Everytime you see them, he is “Phoenix” and talks and acts like the entire Metal/Fantasy/ Underground world is the reality in which he lives. People run away when he comes around because of this, when he comes in to talk about Alloy or SCP to other bar owners and employees, he acts like it should be our honor and privilege to hang his posters. His personality and attitude rub many of us the wrong way, he wants some attention and we are trying to run our business and do not have the time to deal with this errand boy. Hang your damn poster and go. We don’t give a s*** about who you think you are. Out of Control Back Backstabbing going on here. We all know this is coming from people within our own society. It is unbelievable that you have chosen to attack people on here. It is not fair to the person or SCP to do so. We know we have dysfuntional people within our group and we have always been accepting of those individuals. I ask that you all stop this nonsense, it is making our organization look bad. If you have a problem with someone, just go to them and address it.
Dysfuntional? Are you kidding? That is the origin of SCP. There is a difference between dysfuntional and the inability to be a part of society. It seems that much of the discussion on here has been about Phoenix. As a public figure, he is fair game for attacks, but I do not feel his Girlfriend should be brought into this. Most have us have just met her and she is a sweet girl that does not deserve this. While I also think that she is being used, I do not think that she needs to be treated like this just because of her bad decision to become involved with Phoenix. That is her cross to bear.

What is up with these post? Can someone tell me what brought all this about? It seems it went from a question about an event to an all out attack of one person. I have known most of the SCP crew for years. The old saying, “It takes all Kinds”, rings true here. Ease up people, Phoenix has some issues with knowing the difference between real and fantasy but no reason to rake him across the coals.
1.- everyone is entitled to their opinion but the facts are quite different from what has been represented here.
2.- we donated 25% of the door to the foundation, which in the 100 degree weather at night amounted to 80 paid plus the 16 guest list and press plus 40 staff. 136 in total attendance. this is more than other events with attendance over 400 patrons so i’d say we care just as much about the charity or more than any other group
3. – for july it was about typical for a first event. the next few months will tell us what adjustments are needed.
4.- the night is a music night with dancers and an art show plus the charity table. there are no erotica shows.
5. – Alloy is a multi-genre music night. we do not consider this in any way a goth night as we play several different forms of electronic dance music throughout the night in both rooms.
6. SCP isn’t going anywhere. we’re in the public eye less because of more engagements out of state and the pre-production work on several video projects and set building for the october events. i’ve also been doing more work in music so i’ve had to pick and choose the amount of club nights we’ve done. typically we do less work in the july/august period every year since we’ve been in existence as do most other businesses that are non-tourism related. the stretch from transformus to dragoncon is a rough stretch and we burn up most of our vacation and personal travel time then as do a majority of the people in the every day workforce.
7. for the 136 people that did come out and have a great time,thank you.
we’ll be continuing to bring the best dance music we can find along with frequent guest dj’s and more artists displaying work to the night .
8. if you haven’t actually checked the night out for yourself, you might want to see what it’s really like. it’s a lot of fun an a place where you can experience a lot of different art together in one event that doesn’t discriminate against any group. except the dutch. we all know they’re not to be tolerated ;p
The reason this attack took a personal turn against Danny Boy, is that fact he has belittled and talked trash about many of young performers. Everyone was a beginner once and instead of working with them, Phoenix treated people like S***. He instead talked about how great he is and how wonderful of a performer and actor he is. I have seen a lot of self centered egomaniacs in my days, but he takes the cake. His dillusions of grandeur is beyond ridiculous. He cannot have a conversation without talking about this person or that person and how they need to be better. He talks as if he is the “know all director” of fetish eroticism. His desire to be needed and idolized makes him a laughing stock and a liability to Single Cell. His approach to and contribution to the Fetish scene is so 10 years ago, as in his real life, he has not matured at all, just grown older. The scene has changed and evolved into a new form of entertainment. And as with most forms of entertainment dealing with erotic and or sexual nature. newer, younger performers with a wider audience appeal have come along bringing with them fresh new ideas that are exciting to their generation. I know many of us are tired of the Bull*** that spews from Danny’s mouth! Yes, Phoenix, your name is Danny. That is reality. Have you ever seen any of us during the day? We are semi-normal people, while we might not fit into the corporate world of Charlotte, we do find our niche’ in alternative neighborhoods. Most of us have 1 or 2 jobs that affords us the luxury of being able to play in a fantasy world 2 or 3 nights a week. Many of us have very sucessful careers in our chosen fields, and are able to support ourselves quite well. You my dear are still in the 17 year old goth emo phase of your life. Your mental and emotional state reminds me of the new goth kids searching for meaning in life. What has gone wrong in your life to keep you in that state? Danny, I think you might do well with some counseling and medication. But, for now, can you just shut up and leave all of us alone. This is the last entry I will post, but I just think that you really need to stop, take a step back and analyse your life. What do you really have for a man your age? If you are honest with yourself, you will see what we all see. Admitting your problem and failures is your first step.

It is nice to see Torch address the issue, “thanks SIR” As for the other issue, Torch is a very smart business man, he will handle the Phoenix situation in his own time and in his own way. I do want to suggest to Torch, listen to the voices on these post, they seem to be in the know. I too have had dealings with Phoenix, but I have enough sense to just purr and walk away.
Oh yes, Torch. Pheonix has told us all about the videos he is designing and producing. He has also told us all about his critical role in transformus and dragoncon. The problem most people are having is not with you or SCP in general, but with one person in the group whose incessant overstatements of his contributions are ludicrous and annoying.
Torch, buddy. Even you must know that Phoenix is full of crap. He claims that he is your right hand man and that he is the only one that has ever written successful shows for you. His claims of your emotional instability and your dependence on him to keep you level is one of his favorite claims to fame. He sits around telling any one who will listen that when you need advise on the shows, the sets, and performers that you shut everyone out and only listen to him. He even goes as far as to say that if he was running SCP that there would be more training and better scenes in the show. That guy is one messed up dude. He claims he is famous and well known, that is a fact, but well known for being a total loser and full of crap.
TORCH….. you are gonna have a mutiny on your hands if you do not toss that dead weight overboard. Phoenix needs to take a break from SCP, and you need to make it happen. I know this will be a big discussion tomorrow night at the meeeting and I can’t wait.
I don’t base my decisions on my group on anonymous internet posts anymore than you would want your team leader or director at your day job doing the same.
Danny Phoenix has worked in this group for over a decade and performed large stages with the best in this business as well as traveled at 5am to load out when other people ditched to attend a party. my decision to support and stand by Danny stands.
I’ve given the charity splits and explained the night and witnessed petty personal attacks on a person from anonymous posts.

Exactly Torch….. I would not get rid of someone that worshiped the ground I walked on either! Thank God you have Phoenix to do your set-ups for free. I would defend my free labor too. As far as I am concerned they are dieing off good riddance. Them going away can not happen soon enough. I only hope they do not hurt and take advantage of any more people before they crash and burn.
It never ceases to amaze me when I observe personally the level of ignorance and severe lack of basic grammar and spelling skills when people start typing angry and hateful commentaries on the internet. All of you need to get a clue and get a life!
First of all, Torch is a human being. He’s not an evil corporate giant nor does he have greasy hair or a combover. I know first hand. He was my roommate at dragoncon, and I’ve known him for several years. He does get drunk and sometimes a bit arrogantly beligerant at times, but the man is worthy–at the very least–of reasonable doubt regarding some of the crap I’ve heard people saying about him.
Everyone who is in a position of high profile in a business tends to be the target of every disgruntled underling and jilted consumer that ever haunts that company’s doorstep. Nobody is perfect, and Torch is no exception. But he certainly isn’t out to screw everyone over and run away with the cash box. He wouldn’t have survived for nearly a decade if he took that stance.
The goth/industrial/underground/fetish scene is a fickle and faddish niche market. Even in big industrial cities like Chicago, it suffers tremendously from drama and the constant ebbs and flows of the market. But THIS IS THE BIBLE BELT people! Seriously! Torch has done a fxxking awesome job at carving out a success in this backwater city full of bible-thumpers and rednecks. Give the man credit where it’s due before you start in on the misspelled badmouthing rants.
I am personally very sick and tired of all the pansy-assed whiney babies out there who hide in anonymity and toss hate grenades at the biggest targets. Why waste your energy? All you do is perpetuate drama where drama isn’t needed or wanted. If you have a personal problem with someone in SCP, go fxxking talk to them in person! Send them an email. Call them on the phone. Or at the very least, call them out in front of everyone like you have balls and aren’t afraid. The fact that you don’t proves where the problem lies: in your own heads!
I have personally been warned by many people in and out of the industry to stay away from Torch and SCP. Warned constantly and passionately in some instances. Yet not one of these people has offered a shred of evidence to support any of the claims they make against him or his company. If the man is so evil and untrustworthy, surely you can come up with SOMETHING! Put up or fxxking SHUT UP. I AM NOT GOING TO TAKE YOUR SIDE! I AM NOT GOING TO TAKE TORCH’S SIDE! THIS IS NOT A WAR!
I also host events and book talent. I started off basically stumbling into the scene, making dumb mistakes that I had to fix before my new company developed a bad name on its first leg. I know the kind of crap a promoter and host has to deal with. I know how easy it is to become the target…to be the whipping boy that takes the blame for every failure your event experiences. It’s not fair, but it’s part of the business.
But what you people are doing is cowardly mudslinging and pointless in-fighting. If you really hate working for SCP that much, LEAVE! If you really hate Torch that much, DON’T COME TO SCP EVENTS! But if you have no direct evidence supporting all of your claims about him or his staff doing this and that, keep your fxxking mouths shut before someone finds out who you are through this veil of anonymity you hide behind and decides your ass is worth kicking.
I won’t be there to stop them OR help them. It’s all such crap. I’m one of the few left in this industry–it seems–who actually grew the hell up after high school. Bunch of whiney-ass clique-mongers.

Yes. Danny grates on everyone’s nerves, and hits on anything with a slit. I know girls who would never go near him because of some that they know he’s been with.
Yes. Wolfie is a girl. Although I have been asked a few times if she was a boy in drag.
Also, I have seen the dead weight clingers on get more love than the hard workers because they were the preferred few. “oh no, you don’t have to load in/load out, you are one of Torch’s faves”
I am so glad I got out and away from things that were no longer fun and FAR more stress than they were worth.
YES. They demoted pretty much all of the curvier awesome dancers in favor of the eensy-weensys that can’t dance worth a lick. Then they got rid of the dance manager that was doing better than any other dance manger I have seen there pretty much since Miss Mary Shannon, And all of the dancer’s LOVED her (Oh, AND she never got sloppy drunk on the clock). What does it say to the customer’s when most of the management is so drunk at the events that they don’t know which way is up?
