Mardi Gras in Charlotte? What’s the cultural connection?
A more appropriate celebration with a closer cultural connection would be a Hollerin’ Contest a la Spivey’s Corner, NC. Most Charlotteans (especially the transplants) have NO sense of local tradition or culture. That’s why it tries to co-opt cultural activities of other parts of the U.S.. It must have something to do with lingering shame over the Jim Crow era.
