Apparently, while I was traveling, the burger bar became the hot new thing in Charlotte. Theres Big Daddys Burger Bar in Dilworth and Ballantyne, Nix Burgers and Brew in Uptown, The Counter in SouthPark and now theres The Burger Company in Wesley Heights.
My friend sent me an e-mail with a link to the menu and subject line: THIS PLACE HAS SWEET POTATO TATER TOTS. Not only was she so excited she wrote in all caps, but it legitimately made my day. What a genius combination of fried carbs. Whenever said friend and I go to our favorite place in Charlotte, Big Daddys, the debate between tater tots and sweet potato fries is so conflicting we just order both. Now we can get both without being complete and total fat asses could this place be my new favorite spot?
So, after Friends and Family night at Black Bear Saloon, followed by the last Bobcats home game, I went to get some greasy sweet potato tater tots as my morning after meal.
But they didnt have them, In my mind the name of the place just changed from Burger Company to Disappointment Company.
What they did have, however, which is just as genius as Sweet Potato Tator Tots, was lids for drinks. Their souvenir sippy cup pictured below perfect for my clumsy ass.
They must have known I am a liability. At Easter dinner, I spilled my drink on my mothers food. At a work dinner, I spilled my drink all over the table. And on a night out, I spilled my drink all over myself … and this was all just within the past month.
But even weirder is the fact they dont have plates – all food is served in plastic baskets. Let me get this straight a restaurant, that doesnt have plates. Thats like having a bar without a bottle opener.
This place is a few pom-poms short of a pep rally.
As for the nightlife at the Burger Company is it safe to go out around Freedom Drive at night? … just wondering.

that might be one of the dumber things I have ever read, i would like the last few seconds of my life back ms. cason. you should stick to what you’re good @, which i hear is racer chasing. this place is the best new burger joint in town, with best prices, a stoopid good beer menu, a great bar with tv’s everywhere, and one of the better patio’s with a view of charlotte’s entire skyline. if you had read other peoples rave reviews about this place you would have know that the sweet tots didn’t meet the chef’s own standards for quality therefor have been nixed from the menu. stick to the epicenter where you belong.
To whoever left the previous comment obviously you work for Burger Company, and obviously you don’t know that Brittany works for nascar. Nice try tho
while kinda harsh, first poster is right on, because these non-reviews are getting old. this is the neighborhood’s only bar and a somewhat unique take on the burger bar concept. it deserves SOME mention of food quality, price, atmosphere, location, etc.
I agree with the consensus here. That isn’t much of a review. The food is really good, the prices are more than reasonable and its a great spot for lunch and an even better bar. Coming from someone living in the area I’m a little offended by Ms. Cason’s take on my neighborhood. Of course I certainly didn’t read this expecting to gain anything from it but I figured I’d read a nice review about a place I really like, instead I learned Ms. Cason is a klutz and doesn’t give very fair reviews… oh yeah and that Josh is stalking Ms. Cason.
Didn’t Creative Loafings food editor review the sweet potato tator tots as being not good. Maybe Brittney Should have read that review first? Also for the record, the same company who owns Big Daddy’s is a part owner of The Burger Co.
And as far as restaurants without plates, ever been to The Penguin Brittney?
OK a few things I want to comment on. I am one of the owners of The Burger Company. Big Daddy’s is in no way affiliated with this restaurant.
I do not know Queen City King (above) however he is correct about the sweet potato tater tots. They did not meet the chefs standards so we took them off the menu. We are still trying to perfect them and may add them back to the menu in the future. We’ve had this conversation with many of our guests so this is no secret.
As for the safety of our restaurant, we haven’t had any problems. We have bouncers at night and security cameras throughout the property to make sure it stays that way.
We appreciate the feedback and we are taking it into account as we make some necessary changes.

Ms. Cason, while I appreciate your effort to visit restaurants, businesses, shops, bars, etc. in the Queen City and then write about your experiences, it would be helpful if you wrote actual REVIEWS.
These blog posts are nothing more than short little journal-type entries and offer no substantial information to the readers. As previously mentioned it would be wonderful if you included DETAILED topics such as price, menu offerings, atmosphere, location, parking, and all around INFORMATION. Contact information, website addresses, WHEN something may or may not open and if you can’t get information such as that, perhaps you could include that in your post/review.
I can’t believe Creative Loafing is allowing such pedantic reviews, which seem to me more like strung-together Facebook status updater or tweets, and I certainly can’t believe you think any of this is worthwhile information.
Great blog. Thanks for taking the time to share this. I hope you continue to write more like these.
