Jimmy Eat World
March 30, 2008
Amos' Southend
Review by Chey Scott
The Deal: Samsung Sound Check and Alltel Wireless hooked up with Jimmy Eat World at Amos’ Southend March 29 to provide an intimate show and showcase the latest music-centric phones. Amos’ was packed with fans and Alltel was prepared with interactive phone booths featuring the Samsung Muse and free food for everyone.
The Good: Jimmy Eat World played non-stop for 60-minutes, showing how polished and professional they’ve become in the last seven years. The audience shook and waved their camera phones as the quartet jammed out "Crush," "Here it goes," "Sweetness," and ultimately, "In the Middle." Two flat screens at stage-end were flashing the latest Samsung product and synched to the music for visual effects.
The Bad: These guys are used to a big stage so it would have been appreciated if they took advantage of the private venue to interact with the crowd. The audience had a lot of energy left when JEW hit the encore after only an hour, but to their credit, they didn’t waste any time between songs to settle or adjust.
The Verdict: Jimmy Eat World’s live performance rivaled any of their recordings. The band was incredibly sound and Amos’ was the perfect stage for the Samsung Sound Check.
OK, I'm ready for summer. And for some reason, I'm really into house music right now. I guess should be in Miami for the Winter Music Conference — the big weeklong dance music convention. I could be enjoying warm weather AND house music. But I'm not. Boo hoo. Anyway, this song fits my mood right now:

Singers on America's most popular karaoke contest sang songs from the year of their birth last night.
Aside from making feel really old — one of them was born in the '90s — here are my thoughts about the show:
Here's the music video from Dale Watson, who was featured in this week's Betta Listen. The song's "Hollywood Hillbilly" and Johnny Knoxville appears in it.

Britney Spears was on How I Met Your Mother last night and AOL has an article about how she "stuns critics" and CNN says she's "still a performer."
Are they kidding? First off, Spears couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. She may have acted sane last night, but that doesn't mean she was any good at acting.
Secondly, she didn't have that difficult of a part, and she's been "acting" like she can sing for years.
Apparently, Henry Rollins recently "outed" the secret behind her hit songs.
She shouldn't get credit for acting normal. She needs to get off her drugged-up, lazy ass and be a freakin' mom to her two kids. She needs to stop walking around without panties, sleeping with papparazzi or whoever else has a pulse and is standing near her, and act like she has a brain.
You know why she shaved her head? Not cause she's nuts, but because Kevin Federline threatened to have it tested for drugs.
Stop focusing on Spears — if it weren't for lip synching, she'd be famous for the same reason as Paris Hilton — nothing.
Here's a quick rundown of some of the big names releasing albums this week:
The B-52s Funplex
Counting Crows Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings
Morrissey Greatest Hits
Anna Nalick Shine EP
Panic at the Disco Pretty. Odd
The Raconteurs Consolers of the Lonely
Maroon 5 and Counting Crows are teaming up for a summer tour.
They'll hit Charlotte's Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on July 28, according to billboard.com and pollstar.com.
Opening act is Sara Bareilles.
An incredible band called Tortured Soul is hitting town tomorrow night — they'll be playing the Visulite.
Now, I've seen the Brooklyn-based trio perform twice and the shows were AMAZING. Seriously. The tickets are only $18, so if you're not doing anything TAKE YOUR ASS TO THIS SHOW.
Here's a short clip of Tortured Soul in action:

You've probably seen this one before, but it's worth another look:
