Amor a Primera Visa

Latin American Coalition’s film series CineMás screens its second film of 2014 on April 2 at Mint Museum Randolph. Amor a Primera Visa (English: Pulling Strings), a Mexican film released in 2013, is a romantic comedy that takes the tedious process of getting a visa and turns it into an entertaining interaction among characters. Mariachi singers Alejandro (Jaime Camil) and Canicas (Omar Chaparro) are two goofy guys looking to make it big in Mexico City, but they haven’t reached fame just yet. Instead, Alejandro is a single dad holding down two jobs to pay the bills. He’s also trying to get clearance for his daughter to visit her grandparents in the U.S. After a chance meeting with Rachel, the young embassy worker (Laura Ramsey) who flat-out rejects the visa application, Alejandro and his friend embark on an adventure to change her mind. Here’s to hoping they can sweep her off her feet with their vocal chords. Doors open at 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.cinemascharlotte.com. (Anita Overcash)
