Freedom Summer

Summers are supposed to be filled with sun and fun. But when injustices weighed heavy in Mississippi, the summer of 1964 was about fighting for equality for African Americans. It’s documented in Freedom Summer, a film slated to screen at Levine Museum of the New South. Around 700 students and organizers rallied to protest the state’s segregated voter registration and struggles with racism. (Anita Overcash)
